How can I recycle thee?
Don't throw your Christmas tree away after the holiday season.
Recycle it!!!! Trees will be
collected as garbage if they are set out at the curb.
Drop-off Locations
Before bringing your tree to a depot,
Londoners are asked to:
Remove all decorations, including
tinsel and garland, as these materials present a safety hazard for staff
operating the chipping machines
If disposing of other holiday
evergreens (cedar rope, wreaths, etc.) ensure that all metal and other
materials are removed
At the depot, please remove plastic
bags used to transport the tree and take them home to dispose of or reuse
PLEASE REMOVE ALL METAL. Metal
presents a safety hazard to staff operating chipping equipment, can result in
damage to equipment and cannot be composted.

Give the gift to the environment
Every
year, our festive celebrations create unnecessary garbage. It is estimated that
Canadians generate approximately 300,000 tonnes of garbage each year from
Christmas ribbons, wrapping paper, gift cards, packaging etc. This year, while
you wrap your gifts and trim your tree, make an extra effort to trim your waste
as well.

If we all switched we would save a lot of electricity. There are
many different lighting options out now and some are solar powered.

Try out some of these waste-reducing, gift wrapping ideas!
- Wrap one gift inside another. A gift could be wrapped inside a scarf, a Christmas tea towel or
fabric that can be reused. Simply tie a reusable ribbon around the package and
it will look as festive as any gift wrapped in traditional paper.

Wrap gifts in old newspapers. Choose colourful sections like the comics or holiday flyers and
give the paper new life before it is put out for recycling.

Place gifts in reusable cloth bags, baskets, gift bags or
tins. These are some other great ways to
conceal gifts, and they can be used year after year.

Purchase gifts that do not require wrapping. Some examples include tickets to concerts or sporting events, a
donation in someone's name, house plants or gift certificates.

Avoid wrapping up large gifts. Gifts like bicycles, furniture, boxed electronics, etc can be
decorated with a bow instead of being gift- wrapped.

Cut up your old cards and use them for decoupage
projects, gift tags or kids crafts.

such as Renewable Computer Technology accept computers & peripherals for the Computers for
Schools Ontario program. Check your Yellow Pages for other donation
opportunities.

that many electronic products contain toxic materials such as lead, chromium
and mercury? If you got a new electronic item for Christmas, ensure that your
old item is recycled properly.

can be recycled at the City's Community EnviroDepots, Oxford Street West of Sanatorium Rd and Clarke Road north of Hamilton Road.
