Greetings!

Last Saturday I attended Recharge, a conference for people ministering to children, youth and families.  I had never been to this event before and I was really impressed.  700 people of multiple denominations gathered to recharge for ministry.  One of the keynote speakers, Heather Flies encouraged us by saying, "your celebration of and attentiveness to kids matters."

Most of the day was filled with 24 different workshops on children's ministry, family ministry and youth ministry.  Topics included Family Sabbath, Ten Tips for Engaging Volunteers, Ministering to Middle School Boys, Soul Care and Pacing Yourself for the Long Haul.  I really appreciated the variety of topics and the practical advice offered.

This event is offered once a year and is sponsored by many organization such as Youth Leadership, Vibrant Faith Ministries, Youthworks!, Spark House, Thrivent, Luther Seminary and the St. Paul and Minneapolis Area Synods.  I tell you this because I think who plans the event is important.  These are organizations I trust to deliver solid theology and education, and they did.

The other important part of this event were the conversations with fellow youth Recharge Photoministers.  8 youth ministers (including volunteers) from our synod learned and supported each other on Saturday and will continue to do so in the future.

I hope you check this event out next year.  It was definitely worth the $30 registration fee and the drive to the Twin Cities.

In Christ,

Sarah Hausken, SW MN Synod Youth Ministry Coordinator
