 Social Phonics Boot Camp

Social Phonics Boot Camp
May 19
St. Luke's Lutheran Church,
Bloomington MN

There are a few people from our synod  really excited to attend this event. Maybe it would help you too.

"In our one-day Social Phonics Boot Camps, veteran pastors, non-profit executives, and social mediaistas, Doug Pagitt and Tony Jones will guide you through the basics of the most popular social media services, including blogging, Facebook, Twitter and free broadcast media.

You will learn how, in just three 30-minute periods each week, you can dramatically increase your communication to members of your church, organization, or business - and, even more importantly, to those who have the potential to visit your church or business. Most importantly, we'll help you determine your own social media philosophy, so that you'll know exactly why you're going online each week."

Cost: $125

The ELCA Youth Ministry Network has a new resource sharing website!

"We believe that there is an amazing amount of talent within our Network community.  And all of us have developed resources to use within our ministry.  MartinsList.org is a web site for Network members.  So you've written a Bible study that you think others might benefit from?  You're probably right.  Or you're looking for something for a jr. high retreat on the Book of John?   MartinsList.org is a place to look!  People within our community will upload things they've written that they're willing to share, and these items will be sortable by category.  You'll probably have to do some adapting to make it fix your context, but it will be a great headstart!

It's open-source youth ministry!  It's MartinsList!"

This gives you another reason to join the ELCA Youth Ministry Network!

Envisioning the Future of Faith Formation

This is an event I keep hearing about.  John Roberto has quite a following.

A special presentation by  John Roberto of Lifelong Faith Associates

May 1, 2011, 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.

At University Lutheran Church of Hope, Minneapolis

Fee: $10 at the door  *or free, see below

Description

  • What could congregational faith formation look like in 2020?
  • How can faith formation flourish in Christian churches over the next ten years?
  • How can congregations prepare for the future of faith formation and address the diverse spiritual and religious needs of people?
  • What are the hopeful signs and promising innovations that can guide faith formation for all ages and generations?

We know that the first decade of the 21st century has brought dramatic political, economic, social and cultural changes affecting virtually every dimension of American religious life. Faith formation in 2020 will require new principles, models, approaches, and technologies. This presentation will:

  • review eight driving forces influencing faith formation (social, cultural, religious, demographic, economic, technological) and the diversity of spiritual and religious needs of people and communities today.
  • present four scenarios for envisioning the future of faith formation.
  • suggest practical strategies, ideas, innovations, and resources for targeting the spiritual and religious needs of people in all four scenarios.

John Roberto is president of LifelongFaith Associates, editor of the journal,  Lifelong Faith and coordinator for the Faith Formation 2020 Initiative.
