Perhaps you've seen her on a billboard along I-95. Perhaps you saw her on NOVA. For one night only, you can see her in Langhorne! Langhorne Council for the Arts is very pleased to present professor and artist Caryn Babaian as the first presenter in the LCA Summer Speakers Series. Recently featured on the PBS / NOVA series, "The Secret Life of Scientists and Engineers," Professor Babaian will provide a stimulating discussion of natural forms and the evolution of the human eye/hand connection as they relate to creativity and drawing. Drawing on her fascination with Leonardo Da Vinci, Caryn will give an introduction to artist/physicians in the Liife Sciences who combined both art and their love of natural forms to create early 19th century science and art. The relationship between the natural world, the evolution of the human mind, and the cultural evolution of art will be presented as important components of learning science, as well as healing our relationship with ourselves and the planet. Here's a glimpse of this dynamic presenter: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/secretlife/scientists/caryn-babaian/
Caryn Babaian will be joined by LCA board member Mary Bryson, who combines her passion for both art and science in her professional life as a certified Medical Illustrator. Mary's award-winning illustrations can be found medical textbooks, posters in doctors' offices and pharmacies, and patient education brochures. She has even been known to use the human body as her canvas at medical conventions and exhibits such as Body World at the Franklin Institute. Bryson will talk about how the field of medical illustration has evolved from traditional media to digital formats, and where this field is heading in the future. This event will be of interest to anyone involved in art, science, or medicine, and anyone who is simply intrigued by the human capacity for creativity!
LCA invites you to attend all five of the presentations in our 1st Annual Summer Speaker Series, to be held every other Tuesday night through the summer, beginning on June 28.
