MiddletownFriends

2. Middletown Friends Meetinghouse
453 W. Maple Avenue

This historic Meetinghouse will host an exhibit of original artwork by members of the Point of View Painters, a group of talented regional artists who have been painting together since 1980.  Participating will be Anita Shrager, Joan Reinhart, Jane Smudin of New Hope, Karen Hoffman and Kay King of Wycombe, Florence Ashton Schadler of Buckingham Valley, Pam Grumbach of Newtown, Cindy Sinclair of Gladwynne, and Carol Sanzalone of Lambertville.

This exhibit, sponsored by the Middletown Friends, will open on Friday night with an Artists' Reception from 7-9 pm, and continue on Sunday, from 12:30 - 4:00 pm.   These events are free and open to the public.

On the day of the Arts in the Garden tour, music will be provided by the Newtown Recorder Consort and Bill Daly on the banjo.   A special feature outdoors on the lovely grounds of this historic meetinghouse will be a meditative labyrinth, created by Connie Fenty.  Folk singer Carol Deaver will perform by the labyrinth.

Fenty3.  29 Golf Club Drive

The cozy patio garden of Connie Fenty's Windybush townhouse will feature a fountain, a container garden overflowing with annuals, perennials, and vegetables, and the fanciful and wild illustrations and paintings of artist Nikki Addeo.

Clayton4.  401 Hill Avenue

The stately stone Victorian manor house of Mark and Kathy Clayton, at the corner of Hill and Gillam Avenues, is surrounded by beautiful gardens with dramatic plantings, a pool, gazebo and, it is rumored, more than 1000 impatiens! In this dramatic setting will be artist Patricia Gambino, who is also a Penn State Master Gardener, and Flo Schadler, who will painting some of the beauty around her.  Music will be provided by Peter Joseph and the Roaring Twenties.

Richardson 5.Corner of Bellevue and Maple Avenues

The lush gardens at the Richardson House, tended to by the Four Lanes End Garden Club, will serve as the backdrop for artists Keith Mountford, Smita Rao, and Jennifer Renshaw, who will be painting a live model during the Tour.  Music will be provided by a local high school rock band, Jim Bryson (bagpipes), and the Cabin Jazz All Stars.  The historic Richardson House will also be open for tour.

Wommacks6. 128 East Maple Ave.

A favorite stop on previous Tours, the gorgeous gardens, ponds, and studios of artists Michael and Nina Wommack will again be a highlight of this year's Tour.   Nina creates beautiful botanical tiles and mosaics. Michael's latest artistic endeavors have been vivid, dreamlike views of the Levittown of his childhood, which have won awards and appealed to many across the country who share the experience of life in suburbia.  Amy Wagner, author of "Levittown: Images of America," will have signed copies of her book available, and will also perform country and bluegrass music.  Artist Bonnie Batres will find plenty of inspiration for painting in this secret paradise.

Schneider7.  233 North Bellevue

Paul and Joanne Schneider's pretty "painted lady" Victorian home is a work of art itself, and the front and back gardens have been years in the making.  Kitchen gardens just outside the back door keep the couple in fresh vegetables all summer long.  Kim and Karl Krelove will fill the air with lively and classical duets on violin and clarinet as they perform on the shady porch.  Vocalist Tom Baust will sing in the back gardens from 2-4 pm while artist Melinda Wright displays her paintings.

Carney8.  146 E. Winchester

The recently restored Cape Cod of Stephen and Kerry Carney and its front and back gardens will be filled with the oil paintings of artists Mary Bryson and Ted LaPlante.  Thirteen year old twins Heather and Jill Goodman will show their art and perform Broadway standards and jazz as "Garden Tourists" enter the manicured front lawn.  Classical violinist Monique Canniere, of the Divine Hand Ensemble, will also perform.

Briggs9.  145 Country Lane

The pretty Cape Cod of Kenneth and Janet Briggs is tucked away on quaint Country Lane and slopes down to the golf course of Middletown Country Club. Their garden has a water feature, flowering trees, and a sunny deck.  Dave Leventhal's whimsical "rabbits and rhymes" and the handmade paper books of Mindy Trost will add artistic flair, as talented teens Emily and Stephen Tolnay and Chris Cherin provide musical entertainment.
