Quilt before finishing touches with LCA's novice (but very brave) quilters, Bernadette West, Sally Marrington, and Pat Mervine "Fabric of Life in Langhorne" Community Quilt Debut!October 31 proved to be a damp and dreary day for Langhorne's Harvest Day celebration, but that didn't stop vendors, community groups, and neighbors from coming out to enjoy the food, wares, and costume parade. A bright spot in this gloomy day was the debut of the "Fabric of Life in Langhorne" Community Quilt! Safely displayed in a tent front of Wommacks' Studio on E. Maple Avenue, the quilt attracted many admirers who "ooh'd" and "aah'd" over the 44 clever and colorful blocks that were created by individuals, businesses, churches, and other community groups. Several block creators had their photos taken with the quilt. Other block creators brought friends, neighbors, and family (3 and 4 generations!) to view their handiwork. The scenes depicted in the blocks brought back many memories that were shared with the LCA board members. The "Fabric of Life in Langhorne" quilt will be displayed at the LCA "Gathering of Quilts" quilt show on Nov. 21 at St. James Church hall (see above for details, or visit www.langhornearts.org/events). Soon to be published is a book of photos of each of the quilt blocks and the stories behind them. This book will be available for holiday gift-giving -- a special keepsake that is sure to be treasured. Release date and other info will be shared in the next LCA newsletter. (If you received this email from a friend, please sign up for your own free newsletter at www.langhornearts.org so you can be sure to keep up on arts events in our area). |
