What is your business social media plan moving forward this year? Have you thought of one or are you just taking it day by day and still playing around with it?
The concept of business social media has been introduced this year and is starting to make more sense as many small businesses and entrepreneurs are seeing direct results from their online efforts. I can speak from experience. Over the last four years on Facebook, Linked In, and Twitter, and more recently blogging, my You Tube Channel, and most of all, from my experience writing my last two websites, I feel that these social media tools have helped me launch and sustain a business model worth replicating and sharing with you.
I hope the following three insights will help you get started planning your business social media strategy moving forward and begin to eventually profit from this marketing activity!
#1. Educate yourself. I did not fully embrace business social media until I personally understood it. I started playing with it, reading about it, watching the videos online, listening and watching the early adopters (people and brands I respected). Business social media is NOW everywhere. Take the time to learn more about what is going on, and decide for yourself IF you want to join the conversation.
#2. Change your mindset. Many of you have already started using social media... 600,000 million people are on Facebook with an average of 150 friends, spending close to an hour a day on it... BUT what are you doing ON it? Business social media and social media planning requires a mindset shift from old-world marketing to a new-world marketing mindset which is all about interaction, engagement, and connection! Don't try and sell anybody anything using your social media tools!!! Engage and interact with conversation that positions you as the value-provider and expert in your field, so that others will feel compelled to take action and call you for more information. Or if you are doing it right, a reader/ visitor on your website/ social media tool will 'Like', 'Connect', 'Follow', and 'Retweet' you.
#3. Commit to using business social medial daily. Nothing happens in your business until you commit to change it. The advantages of beginning to learn more about business social media as a small business and entrepreneurial tool are quite obvious (low cost, easy to use, & it's all about the relationships you currently have and creating new ones!). The disadvantage of beginning to learn more about business social media as a small business and entrepreneurial tool is that it takes time and patience, and lot's of planning. As the saying goes... "How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time!"
