My 'Get-Unstuck' Plan

Welcome to In-decision Island! Have you heard of it? Some never leave this so-called haven...they never make a decision, and never take accountability as they do not have the tools to move forward. Some of us just visit In-decision Island, and sooner or later make our way back home to reality and move on, hopefully moving forward in the right direction at the right time... hopefully! And some of us, very few I might add, have visited In-decision Island, but rarely get stuck for long or at all. They have thought about 'their' big picture plan with written goals, are aware of their strengths and weaknesses (both personally and professionally) and focus DAILY on their priorities with a can-do attitude!
I will candidly confess to you that I have been land-locked on In-decision Island (for three months) regarding my new marketing strategy; incorporating a BLOG into my business! I am writing to you this month from experience, from my own rocky-shore of a beach with a plan to set sail into my 2010 Social Media Marketing sunset. My intension here is to help you understand that everyone gets stuck at some point and ends up on a proverbial island trying to figure things out! My goal by April 1 is to email you from my BLOG, and to encourage you to read, follow, and ideally POST your replies to my ideas, thoughts, and opinions expressed within.
So how did I get stuck here on In-decision Island in the first place? Good question! In my opinion, it starts with one's vision and curiosity. As good entrepreneurs we are all built with such vision (some better than others), nonetheless it's one of the many strong entrepreneurial traits needed to build and sustain your business. It's also a trait that can overwhelm you and get you in trouble! One of my favourite quotes I use in my coaching practice is "Vision without action is a daydream... Action without vision is a nightmare! "In-decision Island" is somewhere in the middle, meaning to think about your ideas is key and critical to your businesses profitability, but without doing anything about it, it just becomes added weight onto your shoulders and more stress to worry about.
I have been thinking about writing my BLOG for over a year. I have been unsure how to incorporate it into my bigger marketing plan, website, and additional Social Media Marketing tools (Linked-in, Twitter, Facebook Fan Page, and YouTube), but have known that I wanted my own blog for a long time. Good vision- bad action Cory! We are all guilty of it, and like I mentioned, some of us are guiltier than others. The key is to recognize it, acknowledge it, and try and move forward.
The intention of this newsletter is to help you understand that everyone gets stuck at some point and needs a nudge in the right direction. Enjoy my "Get-Unstuck" plan and I hope you can implement it into any of your load-bearing ideas, goals, and visions.
1. Recognize the signs! When you start to question why you are making excuses for not executing your goals, ideas, plans and visions, then you are on the right track. Take responsibility for your own business and marketing plans. Command your marketplace!
2. Write your vision, goal, idea on a recipe-card and REVIEW IT / RE-WRITE IT DAILY! Refer to my February article on how to write S.M.A.R.T. goals. Consider executing a goal, project/strategy with stages and/or phases into implementation versus a big first step!
3. Share your goals with others. I have just committed to all of you (1000+ readers) my goal to launch my BLOG by April 1, 2010. I have procrastinated long enough... with some good reasons I might add...but I need to be accountable for my vision.
4. Get educated. Read, learn, network to better inform yourself on how to execute your goal, with the intention to start small but to at least start!
5. Start with baby-steps, walk before you run - you know what you need to do from here on! And remember, you do not, nor does your goal, idea, project/strategy have to be perfect or look perfect from the beginning.
6. Go easy on yourself and remember that you have accomplished many other things in your life that brought you here today. If you have to revise your execution launch date, do it knowing you have taken your bigger picture into consideration! Remember... you are the boss!
