Trinity Episcopal School
Middle School Students Advocate for Social Justice, Feed Hungry, Locally and Internationally
CHARLOTTE, NC -

One week into the 2011-12 school year, Trinity Episcopal School sent 160 middle school students, faculty and staff to Montreat, NC, to build community, learn and act for social justice and feed the hungry, locally and internationally. Trinity partnered with Asheville Youth Mission (www.ashevilleyouthmission.org) to serve the local homeless community, working at Homeword Bound, local children's homes and the Veterans Restoration Quarters.

Trinity students also worked with Stop Hunger Now (www.stophungernow.org) to pack more than 16,000 meals for children in schools in the horn of Africa. Students worked together in groups, problem-solving ways to creatively raise $5000 to get the meals sent to Africa. This middle school retreat is one of the many educational activities surrounding Trinity's service learning curriculum and the School's 2011-2012 Embracing Diversity Initiative, Peaceable Kingdom
