The Interfaith Union is a resource center for people who are dating or intermarried of all religious traditions - Christian, Jewish, Muslim and others - which provides educational support, mentoring, community and the celebration of sacred rites.

Our mission is one of compassion, understanding, and acceptance of all and recognition that each person's spiritual journey is unique and to be respected.

We are a 501 (c) 3 not-for-profit organization.

Summer Activities

As our Adult Ed, Under 5's and Union School programs take a break starting this month, we want to take a peek ahead at a few summer events. More information will follow in the next newsletter; however we hope to host a field trip in July to the new Holocaust museum; August 15th Kids concert @ 11am at Ravinia and a family shabbat evening where all are welcome!

Happy June! As we look to summer with delight - as if it will never arrive - I would like to say a warm 'thank you' to all our dads and granddads and uncles and brothers: to those who care for us and cherish us, with warmth and grace and love; for your steady calm and wise counsel; for walking with us at 3am for that late feeding and for holding our hand; for your courage and steadfastness, for honoring your commitments - we love you and thank you!  For us, every day is Father's Day!

Union School 2009-2010

Congratulations to all our families in the Union Schools who end their classes this month: St. Raymond's in Mt. Prospect and St. Athanasius in Evanston!  Thank you to all our parents and volunteer teachers and activity coordinators, and most of all to our young learners. It was a wonderful year and I am so proud to call you family!

We will begin again this September - be on the lookout for the new fall calendar! Please let us know if you will be returning with a child in the kindergarten class; if you have friends who are interested in the program, we would be happy to send them some information!

Shavuot, Pentecost and Giving to Coprodeli USA

This week we celebrate the festival of Shavuot AND Pentecost. Shavuot, coming on the fiftieth day after Passover, celebrates God's revelation in His giving of the Torah; it originally was a celebration of the harvest and a thanksgiving of the plenty, mindful of caring for those who did have have anything. Pentecost, also commemorated fifty days after Easter, marks the 'birthday of the church' when the Holy Spirit descended upon the Apostles and emboldened them with the spirit of God. At a later date we will talk about why the celebration of these two festivals coming at the same time is NOT a coincidence!

In this spirit of service, giving and the laws of our God, I invite us to donate to Coprodeli USA any gently used children's clothing and shoes; adult clothing and shoes, as well as  bedsheets, comforters, blankets, pillows and bath towels. This important service will be hosted in the Old St. Patrick's parking lot - Adams and Des Plaines - on Sunday June 14th, from 7am to 1:00pm. Go through your closets and cupboards and donate your gently used stuff to a great cause. For information on Coprodeli, one of Old St. Pat's global outreach partners, please see www.coprodeliusa.org, serving the poorest of Peru.
