Living Joyfully |

Hi Everyone!
One of my heroines is Sacagawea, the Shoshone woman who accompanied the Lewis and Clark expedition and proved herself a valuable guide and translator. Every member of the expedition who kept a diary commented more than once on Sacagawea's amazing courage, endurance, and clear headedness under extraordinary circumstances. Legend has it that Sacagawea gave birth to her son while on the trail, got u p the next day, and continued on. The hardships we face today are very different, and it may feel that we have little in common with this strong, resilient woman. Yet each of our lives is a journey through uncharted territory too, if not on the physical level, certainly on the psychological and emotional. And as we face our new horizons, Sacagawea sets an amazing example of sheer tenacity. Because we know that the Lewis and Clark expedition ended successfully with a new set of maps to cross the wilderness and reach the Pacific, Sacagawea's life seems like a kind of charmed adventure. But I am sure that most days she simply got up, got ready to walk, and put one foot in front of the other, doing what needed to be done. She kept moving, stayed present for her son, and never gave up. And we can too.
Namaste,
Erin

Your Amazing Hands: A Feldenkrais Workshop
| | Your Amazing Hands January 29, 2-5 pm
Our hands truly are amazing- with them we can read braille, play a cello, comfort a child, navigate an iphone... Our hands allow us to sense, feel and receive our world, as well as to touch, impact and effect it. Our refined hands have more representation in our brains than almost any other body part. It is said that there is more brain space devoted to the thumb than to the entire back. Because the hands have such a profound impact on our experience (i.e. if you have ever received a great hand massage or conversely hit your thumb with a hammer) the state of relaxation or the tension we carry in our hands greatly affects our whole system. In this workshop we will explore lessons to improve our sensitivity, dexterity and overall presence in our hands, while releasing the holding, tension and restrictions that can accumulate with repetitive use. A great workshop for musicians, bodyworkers, painters, knitters, magicians, anyone who works with a keyboard and anyone who touches the world in some way on a regular basis. January 29, 2-5pm $40 in advance, $45 day-of

| Yoga for Cross Country Skiers: A Workshop | | February 19, 2011! 2-4pm, $25
Make 2010 the best ski season ever with greater flexibility and strength, and fewer aches and pains. Yoga has many benefits for skiers. Yoga improves core stability and strength, builds flexibility and balance, strengthens bone, enhances muscle flexibility and tone, and boosts lung capacity. Learn Yoga techniques you can use at home to improve your skiing, and how to get the most out of your Yoga practices when you do attend class. "After about a week of practicing yoga, my skate glide improved about 25%. I really noticed a difference in the quality of my glide. I wasn't struggling any longer to step to and maintain a flat ski. Keep in mind that I had been skating skiing for over ten years before I first practiced yoga. With continued yoga practice, I began to understand the mechanics about rotating your hips under and lifting through the sternum, mechanics that improve the glide even further. That lift is also important in classic ski technique. And maybe most important, cross-country skiing is an exercise in awareness. Yoga is awesome in that regard as learning to pay attention to the little things, that mindfulness alone will take your cross -country skiing a long ways." - Chuck
