Living Joyfully

Hi Everyone,
I went for a long walk today, enjoying the sunshine and the blue sky. The fresh air left me feeling light and happy, invigorated and deeply alive. It was not until hours later that I began to remember and think about all the things I should have gotten done today; I had reached sunshinethat point of blissful fade-out where those things were completely gone from my brain. There will always be more work to do, but this perfect present moment will never come again. This is the feeling we're after in savasana: that sense of fading out of our ordinary existence and into something wonderful, peaceful, and calm. It is so easy to get absorbed into work, into conversation, into drama, into the task at hand. Sometimes it takes a vigorous practice to allow ourselves to be absorbed into that real existence which in the natural, non-technological world would be our true home. That sense of peaceful oneness with all things. This week, let's let ourselves go there more often, more easily, more wholeheartedly. There will always be more work, but not always more you, or more time just for you, unless you make it so.
Namaste,
Erin

Find Your Balance
Sat. Dec. 18th, 2-5pm
movement
In addition to our 5 senses of sight, smell, taste, hearing and touch, our sense of balance is an often overlooked yet crucially important sense. Whether walking down an icy sidewalk, sitting in a chair, or skiiing down a mountain, we can refine our ability to organize ourselves around our center, through our skeleton over our contact with the ground. Often we try to maintain balance through tensing muscles, holding the breath, becoming more gripped and solid. In this workshop we will explore balance as dynamic responsiveness. We'll be reminded of our ability to dance with the ever-changing elements in the world in which we live. Join us for an afternoon where we'll explore many aspects of this complex sense by improving your proprioception through your feet, enhancing your experience of your dynamic center of gravity, as well as exploring how breathing habits and use of your eyes can help (or hinder) your stability and fluidity. As Ruthy Alon writes, "Your balance is only as good as your willingness to risk it." Become easier on your feet this winter, and you may be surprised to find you're more balanced in your life in general.

You'll be able to register online by tomorrow or feel free to drop in. $40 prepaid or $45 drop in.
Yoga for Cross Country Skiers: A Workshop
Rescheduled for February 19, 2011!

Make 2010 the best ski season ever with greater flexibility and strength, and fewer aches and pains.skiers Yoga has many benefits for skiers. Yoga improves core stability and strength, builds flexibility and balance, strengthens bone, enhances muscle flexibility and tone, and boosts lung capacity. Learn Yoga techniques you can use at home to improve your skiing, and how to get the most out of your Yoga practices when you do attend class.

"After about a week of practicing yoga, my skate glide improved about 25%. I really noticed a difference in the quality of my glide. I wasn't struggling any longer to step to and maintain a flat ski. Keep in mind that I had been skating skiing for over ten years before I first practiced yoga. With continued yoga practice, I began to understand the mechanics about rotating your hips under and lifting through the sternum, mechanics that improve the glide even further. That lift is also important in classic ski technique. And maybe most important, cross-country skiing is an exercise in awareness. Yoga is awesome in that regard as learning to pay attention to the little things, that mindfulness alone will take your cross -country skiing a long ways." - Chuck
