Living Joyfully
|
|
I have been thinkingabout livinglike the liliesthat blow in the fields. They rise and fallin the edge of the wind, and have no shelterfrom the tongues of the cattle, and have no closets or cupboards, and have no legs.Still I would like to beas wonderfulas the old idea. But if I were a lilyI think I would wait all dayfor the green faceof the hummingbirdto touch me.What I mean is,could I forget myselfeven in those feathery fields? When Van Goghpreached to the poor of course he wanted to save someone--most of all himself. He wasn't a lily, and wandering through the bright fieldsonly gave him more ideasit would take his life to solve.I think I will always be lonelyin this world, where the cattlegraze like a black and white river-- where the vanishing liliesmelt, without protest, on their tongues--where the hummingbird, whenever there is a fuss, just rises and floats away.-Mary Oliver, Lilies

Come enjoy holiday favorites and other musical delights with Anne-Marie Hildebrandt and Citrine.
Citrine is a Celtic-inspired vocal group of ten to twelve women based in Salt Lake City, Utah. Formed in January, 2008 by singer/songwriter and Juilliard-trained pianist Anne-Marie Hildebrandt, they have become known for their pure, clear sound and distinctive o riginal music. Drawing influences from folk, pop, rock, country and classical music as well as the Celtic genre, Anne-Marie's original songs and arrangements are written to showcase the duet of Citrine's clean blend with her own expressive vocals. | Yoga for Cross Country Skiers: A Workshop | | Date and time TBA
Make 2010 the best ski season ever with greater flexibility and strength, and fewer aches and pains. Yoga has many benefits for skiers. Yoga improves core stability and strength, builds flexibility and balance, strengthens bone, enhances muscle flexibility and tone, and boosts lung capacity. Learn Yoga techniques you can use at home to improve your skiing, and how to get the most out of your Yoga practices when you do attend class.
"After about a week of practicing yoga, my skate glide improved about 25%. I really noticed a difference in the quality of my glide. I wasn't struggling any longer to step to and maintain a flat ski. Keep in mind that I had been skating skiing for over ten years before I first practiced yoga. With continued yoga practice, I began to understand the mechanics about rotating your hips under and lifting through the sternum, mechanics that improve the glide even further. That lift is also important in classic ski technique. And maybe most important, cross-country skiing is an exercise in awareness. Yoga is awesome in that regard as learning to pay attention to the little things, that mindfulness alone will take your cross -country skiing a long ways." - Chuck
