Hi Everyone, Ayurveda teaches us that Fall is the time of year when the element of air is predominate. As an "element" air is cool, dry, and rough. For those of us with Vata constitutions, already tending toward being scattered and ungrounded, this time of year poses a special challenge. In our Yoga practice, we may want to spend more time with our pranayama, evening out the breath and getting our own "air" mo ving in the right direction. Reflecting on the nature of the element can also be helpful, as we cope with the various stressors of the season. Even though air is basically invisible, it is a powerful element. We can see its work through its effects this time of year: the wind gathers leaves together and scatters them apart. Symbolically, air is connected to thought and communication. Also invisible, thoughts have very powerful effects, as they silently express our feelings about ourselves and others, and they drive the messages we send ourselves and others based on those feelings. As Do Ju Nim used to say, "one thought can create, one thought can destroy." We can gain a lot of ground in our practice - and in our personal lives - when we begin to regulate our internal communications, our thoughts, and our breath. Yoga provides a way to quiet the mind, enabling us to connect with our inner truth; a very grounding practice indeed. When we are in touch with our inner truth, our communications with ourselves and others become clear and therefore easier, even when the truth is painful. Remember that our communications, like air, can gather things (or people) together or scatter them apart. As we move through the week, let's consider how we can use this power wisely and well. Have a wonderful week everyone! Namaste, Erin

| Let Go the Weight of the World | | Let Go the Weight of the World: A Yoga workshop with Garrick Peters

Our bodies are recording devices for all we have gone through; they absorb, store, and express the entire content of our experience. The hips and shoulders in particular are hubs of movement and body memory. A typical yoga class leaves little time to thoroughly address the hips or the shoulders, let alone both. In this workshop, we will gradually warm the body and heat the joints, making our way into a balanced progression of deep openers of the pelvic and shoulder girdles.
This workshop is about healing, opening and making space for the breath to sweep in, wash through, and release the ongoing build up of tension. Come prepared to participate in a supportive group practice where each of us invests in and receives a deeply personal positive outcome. Let Go the Weight of the World Saturday November 27th, 2:30-5:30 PM, $20

| Yoga for Cross Country Skiers: A Workshop | | Date and time TBA
Make 2010 the best ski season ever with greater flexibility and strength, and fewer aches and pains. Yoga has many benefits for skiers. Yoga improves core stability and strength, builds flexibility and balance, strengthens bone, enhances muscle flexibility and tone, and boosts lung capacity. Learn Yoga techniques you can use at home to improve your skiing, and how to get the most out of your Yoga practices when you do attend class.
"After about a week of practicing yoga, my skate glide improved about 25%. I really noticed a difference in the quality of my glide. I wasn't struggling any longer to step to and maintain a flat ski. Keep in mind that I had been skating skiing for over ten years before I first practiced yoga. With continued yoga practice, I began to understand the mechanics about rotating your hips under and lifting through the sternum, mechanics that improve the glide even further. That lift is also important in classic ski technique. And maybe most important, cross-country skiing is an exercise in awareness. Yoga is awesome in that regard as learning to pay attention to the little things, that mindfulness alone will take your cross -country skiing a long ways." - Chuck
