| Living Joyfully |
|
Keep walking, though there's no place to get to. Don't try to see through the distances. That's not for human beings. Move within, but don't move the way fear makes you move.
Let yourself be silently drawn by the stronger pull Of what you really love.

| Yoga for Cross Country Skiers: A Workshop | | December 12, 2-5 pm
Make 2010 the best ski season ever with greater flexibility and strength, and fewer aches and pains. Yoga has many benefits for skiers. Yoga improves core stability and strength, builds flexibility and balance, strengthens bone, enhances muscle flexibility and tone, and boosts lung capacity. Learn Yoga techniques you can use at home to improve your skiing, and how to get the most out of your Yoga practices when you do attend class.
"After about a week of practicing yoga, my skate glide improved about 25%. I really noticed a difference in the quality of my glide. I wasn't struggling any longer to step to and maintain a flat ski. Keep in mind that I had been skating skiing for over ten years before I first practiced yoga. With continued yoga practice, I began to understand the mechanics about rotating your hips under and lifting through the sternum, mechanics that improve the glide even further. That lift is also important in classic ski technique. And maybe most important, cross-country skiing is an exercise in awareness. Yoga is awesome in that regard as learning to pay attention to the little things, that mindfulness alone will take your cross -country skiing a long ways." - Chuck

Feldenkrais this weekend: Finding Neutral
| | A Workshop with Erin Geeasaman Rabks & Carl Rabke Saturday November 13, 2-5 pm
What is your state of neutral? How often do you experience yourself in a neutral way? Do you know how to allow your neck and back to find a neutral state? How about your breathing? The idea and experience of "neutral" is fascinating to us - and we hope to you as well. Consider this example: Imagine that when you drive in your car, you have a habit of contracting your back and hips so you don't lean and sway too much with the movements of your car as you navigate the roads. Now imagine after getting out of your car, you go to engage in another activity; say walking, swimming, playing a sport, or visiting with friends. If your system is not familiar with "neutral" and how to get there, you may go into your next activity carrying some of the physical habits you used in your previous activity. In this way, you may find pain or discomfort in your back and hips, or may actually injure yourself as you carry your "driving habits" into your next activity. This lack of ability to return to clean neutral can make your workouts less efficient and can make something simple like bending over to pick up a dropped pencil treacherous. For most of us, scenarios like this unfold with regularity every day. Discovering what neutral feels like (and how to find your way there) can be profoundly beneficial - less unnecessary wear and tear on your system, greater efficiency in your physical activities, improved sleep, and a more balanced state of being in general. This experience of neutral is nothing esoteric - it's as natural as it gets. Not too tight, not too loose, relaxed and ready to respond to what life brings. Join us for a few hours to explore of this fascinating topic next weekend.
