Living Joyfully: community warmth
|
|
Hi Everyone,With the cooler weather this weekend, it is truly starting to feel like winter might be coming after all! It makes me want to turn the lights on and the heat up, and get onto my mat in search of that inner glow. One of the things I'm grateful for this season is our community here at Avenues Yoga. If you are reading this, you are part of something special, and on behalf of all the other teachers as well as myself, we thank you! We've got two wonderful community events coming up in the next month: our Artisan Bazaar and the Thanksgiving Gratitude Practice, and I hope you'll consider attending one or both of these. More info on the Thanksgiving Practice is below.
In my mind, the idea of Yoga is broader than our on-the-mat practice. It embraces the notion of connecting with community; realizing that we are surrounded by kindred spirits and people who would be our friends if we let them. The Artisan Bazaar gives us a chance to come together as a community in informal celebration of the season, share a cup of mulled cider or cocoa, and support the artisans & artists who practice Yoga with us and who have wonderful talents to offer. Some of you know that the studio was once an artist's studio, so it seems very appropriate to open up the space for this purpose at least once a year! So please do come out and support the artists and craftspeople in our midst.
This year the Artisan Bazaar will be November 6, 3-9 pm. Admission is free. We'll have live music & food & beverages, jewelry, crafts, and lots of unique gifts to browse. It's like a cozy indoor farmer's market for gift shopping, and a great way to rub elbows with your friends & neighbors while we can actually chat instead of doing ujayii breathing. It is a good opportunity to remember & celebrate the fact that we are all connected. Hope to see you there!
Warmly, Erin

| Couples Massage | | Couples Massage Workshop with Carl Rabke, Friday October 29, 7:15 pm
Massage can be both pleasurable and relaxing; it can also deepen intimacy and connection with a partner. In this class we will explore the healing benefits of massage by learning some basic techniques. We will also look at how to set up a space at home to practice massage, and how to use skillful body mechanics while giving massage to another. Bring playfulness and curiosity as we delve into the rich world of touch. We will be working on the floor, so please bring three blankets and two towels per couple. Bring a water bottle, and wear clothes that leave room for skin contact (e.g. shorts and a sports bra or tank top.) This class is limited to 8 couples.
