Living Joyfully: The Seventh Man
|
| There is a wonderful line in Haruki Murakami's short story, "The Seventh Man." Murakami writes, "They say the only thing we have to fear is fear itself, but I don't believe that... Oh, the fear is there, all right. It comes to us in many different forms, at different times, and overwhelms us. But the most frightening thing we can do at such times is to turn our backs on it, to close our eyes. For then we take the most precious thing inside us and surrender it to something else."
In our ongoing Yoga practice, we have the opportunity over and over again to move out of our comfort zone. At those times we have a choice: do I run away from sensation? do I pretend that this fear or this challenge isn't coming up for me? do I turn my back and close my eyes? Or, do we tune in. Does the most precious thing inside us awaken and participate in the process of our growth. This week, let's take a fear or other strong emotion and dedicate our practice to overcoming its hold on us. When we find our minds wandering during a gentle practice, or find our body rebelling in a challenging physical pose, let's choose to bring mind and body back to the challenge of the present moment. And let's dedicate that return, along with the deepening of our awareness that comes with it, to the overcoming of our fear. Have a great week everyone! Erin

| Attention, Intention, and Action: A workshop with Peter FrancykHow do we build a Yoga practice that is both spontaneous and relaxing? A
practice that serves the deepest part of ourselves while reflecting the
immediacy of our present situation? Join Peter Francyk to explore the
intricate dance of breath, mind, and body, and learn to move from a
deeper place in your practice. There is no attention without breath, no
intention without engagement of mind; spontaneous right action flows
from the harnessing of the two. This two day workshop will focus on the
subtle aspects of finding a flow, combining pranayama, asana, and deep
mindfulness. Don't miss it!
