Improving Posture without Correction: Feldenkrais June 19, 2-5 pm
|
| From grandmothers to gym teachers, from yoga
instructors to health magazines, we have all received a plethora of information
on "correct posture." Draw the stomach in, loop the shoulders down, lift the
chin, tuck the chin....The question is - Has it worked? Does it hold? Is it
comfortable and sustainable? When we see the ease of little children sitting on
the floor, standing, or running - they are not giving themselves a list of
instructions, they simply have awareness of the easiest and most efficient way
to stand and move in the world. Moshe Feldenkrais said, "A correction becomes a
problem for a lifetime." Anytime we try to embody a conceptual instruction and
apply it over the dynamic and ever-changing world of human movement in a field
of gravity, it is a recipe for a good deal of ineffective or inefficient work.
In this workshop we will learn how to rest on the
frame of our skeletons, not learning the "right" way to stand, but rekindling
the aspect of our awareness that resonates with ease, which can discover
efficiency in movement and stillness and perhaps surprise ourselves with
enjoyable, effortless posture.

Prenatal Update

| We are not offering a regular Prenatal class this month, but I would like to personally invite our lovely mothers-to-be to my Restore class Thursday mornings from 10-11:20. This class includes gentle stretching for neck, shoulders & hips, and relaxing restorative poses which are safe for expectant mothers and beneficial for all. I have taught prenatal, and I delivered a happy and healthy Ava Grace about nine months ago. I hope you can join us! Warmly, Erin |
