Living Joyfully: The Body of Breath
|
|
Hi Everyone, We had a great first session of Deep Relaxation/ Yoga Nidra this past Wednesday; thanks, all of you who came out! This week in that class we will focus on the "body of breath," bringing more relaxing pranayama breathing into the mix. Deep Relaxationcan be more soothing than sleep itself - a wonderful way to recharge those tired batteries and sleep better at night during this interim period between winter and spring.
Our bodies are not just made of the solid, tangible "stuff" we can see when we look in the mirror, and feel when we put on our clothes. The space between the material elements of the body is what makes it pliable, soft and alive. It is this space that we enter into when we focus on the body of breath in Deep Relaxation. Expanding our awareness into this layer brings greater vitality into our entire being, expanding the space between the cells for greater respiration and release on the most intimate, internal level.
In Deep Flow last night, Garrick read a passage from the Tao Te Ching that puts this concept beautifully into words:
We join spokes together in a wheel, but it is the center hole that makes the wagon move
We shape clay into a pot, but it is the emptiness inside that holds whatever we want
We hammer wood for a house but it is the inner space that makes it livable
We work with being but non-being is what we use.
Enjoy your practice this week! Erin
