Living Joyfully

Hi Everyone,
Can you believe we're coming up on our one year anniversary at Avenues Yoga? We'll be planning some ways to celebrate in the coming weeks, so please stay tuned. I'm still amazed every day by the warmth of our welcome into the Avenues community. I'm so grateful for that! For myself, the studio has become a place I rely on to find center. Each time I walk in to teach or take a class, or even just to sweep the floor, a feeling of deep peace comes over me. No matter how stressed my day was, or how many loose, frazzledends remain undone as I enter, I always feel renewed and whole when I leave. I remember our first class in the space, when we still didn't have any lights in the celining, no mats or bolsters, no music (although I was encouraged to chant!). It was a cool Saturday morning in April... (continued below)
Workshops with visiting teacher Matthew Cohen

Don't miss this opportunity to practice with a true master teacher!

Matthew Raymond Cohen's Sacred Energy Arts is a method of health and self-development: a multi-disciplinary approach drawn from Hatha and Taoist yoga, Matthewmartial and healing arts. While each stands alone as great health systems with complete transformative methods, together they become stronger, more effective and more interesting.

Let your body, mind, and spirit discover the grace and power of the ancient martial arts practices; the balance, flexibility and peace of Hatha yoga and the increased energy and awareness of beautiful chi Kung exercises.

Matthew's teaching is warm and accessible.

All Levels are Welcome. Come learn how to apply this beautiful & healing fusion of energy work to your own practice:

Thursday March 25, 5-7 pm Adjustments workshop $45 ($40 if purchased by 3/15)

For many of us the way we develop our running style is by starting to run - we just "run the way we run." Rarely is there a context where we can return to exploring our running to see if it is as economical, as powerful or as enjoyable as it could be. We might attempt to follow instructions from the experts on the "best" foot strikes or arm swings or vary the shoes we wear - but is there a way we could we find an internal compass which could reliably lead us to strong, efficient, and graceful running, directed from the inside by our own experience and awareness?

In this workshop we will do several Awareness Through Movement® lessons which can both clarify our experience of the mechanics of running as well as awaken our capacity to attend to many details of ourselves as we run.

This workshop is open to those who compete in races, those who have never run, those who used to run but it hurt too much, and those who think that running is impossible.

The short running parts of the workshop are optional for those with injuries, or who do not run, and the learning and discoveries in the floor lessons (like most things Feldenkrais) can be applied to myriad aspects of life beyond running.

If you'd like to repeat this workshop, ask us about a discount for repeat students. To register for either or both workshops, click here

Living Joyfully

It was a cool Saturday morning in April, before the studio had officially opened. We managed to have a great Yoga class, and the enthusiasm & spirit of that moment has remained constant throughout the year.

To celebrate the anniversary of our opening, I would love to hear from you. Do
two lotusesyou have a story of how the studio has touched your life? Is there an instructor whose teaching speaks to you, or a class you've come to appreciate to help you through the week? Maybe you've had a profound experience here. Maybe it's just been something small, but meaningful to you. What is it that you like best, that keeps you coming back?

If you're willing to share a story, short or long, please email me by clicking here. Your stories will remain anonymous, and I'll be compiling them over the next few weeks to share with our community. Thanks in advance: I'm very grateful to you all for sharing your energy and your light through our practice together!
Namaste, Erin
