Living Joyfully: Living Majestically
|
| Hi Everyone,
Wow - what a great weekend we had here at the studio with visiting teacher Peter Francyk. One of the things that resonated most with me from Peter's teaching was the emphasis on the exhale. We know how to take, but do we know how to let go?
In our climate-controlled, modern-day lives, most of us are far more comfortable than our ancestors, but at the same time, far lass majestic. Unlike our ancestors, we no longer have to confront death on a daily basis, and yet we share with them the inescapable fact of our temporary tenure in this present, human form. Learning how to exhale helps us learn to face our mortality with bravery and dignity. Always inhaling, we cling to life, thinking that it's the way to get more, more, more. But really we get less, less, less - because we don't know how to empty out, to make room for any more. Exhaling fully helps us ground, connect with our roots, connect with a great tradition of continuity with our ancestors. Exhaling fully and wholeheartedly is both an act of re-membering that connection, bringing it into presence through our practice, and at the same time a radical practice of letting go. It is a way of living majestically: fully present, fully feeling, fully aware, fully compassionate, and fully strong.
Thank you, Peter, for sharing your wisdom with us.
