Couples Massage
Friday, February 5, 7-10 pm

Massage can be both pleasurable and relaxing; it can also deepen intimacy and connection with a partner.

This class is limited to 8 couples.
Cost: $89
Register through Lifelong Learning by clicking here.

In this class we will explore the healing benefits of massage by learning some basic Swedish techniques. We will also look at how to set up a space at home to practice massage, and how to use skillful body mechanics while giving massage to another.

Bring playfulness and curiosity as we delve into the rich world of touch. We will be working on the floor, so please bring three blankets and two towels per couple. Bring a water bottle, and wear clothes that leave room for skin contact (e.g. shorts and a sports bra or tank top.)

You will receive a small bottle of oil to take home.

Kirtan is a Sanskrit word meaning "repeat," and referring to joyous cal
l-and-response singing with instrumental accompaniment. To listen, click here.

"When we repeat mantras and prayers [through song] we call the things we most want to us. By combining the vibrations of music, love, appreciation and connection, the energy rises and settles sweetly into the core of our beings. Leraine has quickly become a master of this chanting style and leads each group fluently along the sound currents which connect us to the divine spirit that lives and flows in all things."

The Less that is More Jan 23, 2-5 pm

The Less that is More
shell Saturday Jan. 23, 2-5pm

Moshe Feldenkrais often made reference to the Weber-Fechner law which basically says that there is a direct relationship between our ability to sense and the amount of stimulation we receive. If you are carrying a 40 pound back pack and someone places their hand on your shoulder, you may not even feel it. If, however, someone places a penny in your empty palm, you can feel the weight and texture clearly.

We live in a world with such an onslaught of sensory stimulation  that our senses become numb to the nuances of our experience (just try to stay with the quality of your breath or your contact with the ground as you sit through movie previews or walk through a Best Buy store). Even when we engage our bodies, we often need to to be deep in the intensity of a stretch or miles into the run before we really feel that we are doing something.

In Feldenkrais lessons we create a context where we can put down the metaphorical 40 pound backpack, and thereby lower the noise in the nervous system so we can actually begin to discover the richness and nuance of information that is present in how we do what we do.

In these lessons we will discover the sensitivity and receptivity that allows learning, choice and spontaneity in how we move in the world.

The Elements of Practice
Feb 6 & 7, 1-5 pm
Peter is Back! Renowned Yoga teacher Peter Francyk returns to Salt Lake for this essential 2-day workshop. Whether you are a newcomer to Yoga who senses that there is more to the practice, or a long-time practitioner looking to deepen your connection in 2010, this workshop is for you.

According to Ayurveda, everytPeterhing in the universe is made up of a combination of the five elements: Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Space. The human being also has 'soul' or 'spirit.' Understanding the ways in which these elements flow through and around us can deeply enhance both our personal Yoga practice and our class experience.

"The Elements of Practice" takes the Ayurvedic elements as the starting point for an exploration of the practice of Yoga on a deeply integrated level.
