Living Joyfully: our Guru's gifts
|
|
Sometimes the "gifts" of life are hard, and hard to see. Our eyes become tired, and so we see only darkness all around. Sometimes the "gifts" of life don't seem like gifts at all, but rather obstacles or trials for us to sludge through. Sometimes it seems better to stay in bed with the shades pulled down and the covers pulled up over our heads. Yoga teaches that such times are part of a cycle of life that is always changing. Even the hardest times pass, and we revisit the bright side again. And then the dark, and then the bright, over and over again in this lifetime. Where do we place our hearts? What should we tie our happiness to? Happiness and sadness follow in the cycle of our "good" and "bad" times. They rely on external factors that change, over and over again. But there is sometime to be thankful for beyond all that. Whether it is the gift of being able to feel (as in Tantra), or the gift of seeing the larger pattern of our lives (Yogic conquering of avidya), Yoga encourages us in the understanding that we will weather whatever comes, momentarily good or bad, in its season.
This life is a journey of the spirit as well as the material being. And whatever "gift" or obstacle confronts us, it is always simply our guru in a new disguise, reminding us not to get hung up on momentary highs or lows. Reminding us to live in the light, grateful to meet our guru laughing once again.
This being human is a guest house. Every morning a new
arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meanness, some momentary awareness
comes as an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they're a crowd of sorrows, who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture, still, treat each guest honorably. He may be
clearing you out for some new delight.
The dark thought, the shame,
the malice, meet them at the door laughing, and invite them in.
Be grateful for whoever comes, because each has been sent as a
guide from beyond. -Rumi

Thanksgiving Gratitude Practice |
|
What if you viewed your physical life and your spiritual path as one and the same? What if grace allowed you to surrender the need to know why things happen as they do, and to trust that whatever the reason is, it is part of a grander spiritual design? This Thanksgiving, let's celebrate whole-heartedly with an attitude of gratitude. Truly appreciating what we've got is a powerful way of attracting abundance. Giving thanks for what we've got is the key to receiving new blessings from this great big wonderful universe of ours.
Come join us Thanksgiving morning for a flowing Yoga practice filled with poetry, movement, and joy. Class will be led by Erin Menut $15 drop-in. All levels Welcome.

Advanced Awareness Through Movement
Workshop
Saturday November 28th, 3-6pm
|
|
With Erin & Carl
Now that we've been teaching ATM
classes in the Salt Lake area for 4 years, we feel some of you might be
ready for the next step! We recommend this workshop for those who've had
at least 6 months experience with
Awareness Through Movement Lessons. Rather than the subtle small
movements we often explore, in this class we'll be going bigger. Expect
more dynamic lessons, fun movements you've never done before and
plenty of laughter. $40 prepaid, $45 drop
in.
Click here to register via our events page. "Awareness Through Movement lessons are designed to improve ability, that
is, to expand the boundaries of the possible, to turn the impossible into
the possible, the difficult into the easy and the easy into the pleasant."
- Moshe Feldenkrais, D.Sc.
Dr.
Moshe Feldenkrais has developed a system that is many years ahead of
conventional medical understanding.
