Living Joyfully: Dynamic Re-calibration
|
|
Hi Everyone,
When I think about balance, I often remember Dae Yong Kim's saying: "just when you think you have it, you don't." Every life change brings with it the need to re-balance, to re-calibrate. For the most part, we make these little adjustments all the time, without paying much attention, in the same way that we adjust our balance in an easy pose on the mat. Our bodies do the work for us. But in challenging postures, as in challenging life situations, more effort, and more conscious awareness is needed.
I was speaking with a friend this weekend who, like me, just had a baby. She was saying how difficult she found it to adjust to the change and to overcome her frustration at how long it now took her to do simple things, like go to the store, or even make the bed. But, she said, when I changed my attitude, everything became easier. We laughed, and I couldn't agree more - about all of it.
In the balancing scales of life, attitude weighs heavy. When we think we have our life together, we get frustrated at the events and changes that throw us off balance. Just when you think you have it, you don't! It is important to remember that events and changes are always throwing us off balance, and that part of the fun of living is to rise to the challenge of the changing circumstance - just in the same way that we rise to the challenge of a difficult pose. Balance isn't an "it" that we can "have" after all - its nature is dynamic, just like our own human nature. So let's have fun with it. Be light, and let go.
Have a great week everyone! Namaste, Erin

The Art of Walking
|
|
The Art Of Walking: Feldenkrais with Erin & Carl
After
most of us accomplish the great feat of learning how to walk when we are
between one and two years old, our walking just becomes "how we walk"
and we rarely wonder into how well we walk, or the possibility of
improving our walking. Is your walking easy? As efficient as it could
be? Is it pleasurable? Graceful? Do nagging aches and pains tend to
arise? Here's an important question: Do they need to?
In
this workshop we will explore the rich terrain of human gait: We will
learn how we can improve our walking at any age or in any shape,
updating our old habits into new choices, and learning how with
awareness and curiosity, we can continue to refine the way we walk for
as long as we are alive.
Both Erin and Carl will be teaching.
