Living Joyfully: Ahimsa & Appreciation
|
|
"Embracing reverence and love for all (Ahimsa), we experience oneness." Yoga Sutras, II-35
Hi Everyone,
This week I'd like to share a personal message. I want to thank everyone who is supporting our Studio by coming to classes and sharing time and energy with our community through Yoga practice. Every time you walk through our door, you are helping to make Avenues Yoga the beautiful, warm, abundant space of exploration and growth that it is coming to be.
When I decided to be part of the venture, and adventure, of opening the studio, I did so for very personal reasons; I wanted my baby to be part of a community of caring people. I couldn't imagine a more supportive, intuitive, sensitive and good community than the one I see forming at our studio, and I feel blessed that this vision is becoming more and more real every day.
I also want to thank the teachers who are sharing their light here, especially those who are kindly covering my classes while I step back from teaching and learn how to become a mother. I hope that you will all join me in expressing gratitude for their spirit of generous contribution at a time when I need to withdraw from my teaching practice. Please support their classes and their dedication to maintaining our roster of offerings. These changes give us all a tremendous opportunity to learn and grow.
This week I'll be teaching Deep Relaxation, Restore on Thursday, and Good Morning Yoga, with Reina, Jami and Alaina standing by to cover - just in case this baby decides it is time to come out early and join the fun. I'll also be around the studio as much as possible in the coming weeks, soaking up the good energy and gathering strength, until my passion for teaching brings me back again more actively onto the mat.
Thanks again, everyone, for the light you bring. Om Shanti, Erin

Improve Your Golf Game: A Feldenkrais Workshop with Erin Geesaman & Carl Rabke
|
|
This workshop explores the art
of the golf swing. In classic Feldenkrais style, we will not be telling
you a list of things to do or rules to follow - you probably have enough of those already! - but rather
setting up the context for you to discover, though m ovement
explorations,
how to find more power, balance, ease and
accuracy in your golf game, while reducing the risk of injuring
yourself. Imagine playing golf with a sense of choice and intention
rather than habit and
compulsion. Whether you are a golf hack or a golf pro or somewhere in
between,
these lessons can help to refresh your game & support
you in finding ease and improved function in many other areas of life
as well.
August 15, 1-4:30 pm. $45 in advance, $50 at the door.

Improve
the Way You Run! Saturday Sept. 19th, 1-6pm |
|
A
Feldenkrais workshop with Carl and Erin
Many of us develop our running style by starting to
run - we just "run the way we run." Rarely is there a context
where we can return to exploring our running to see if it is as
economical, as powerful or as enjoyable as it could be. We might attempt
to follow instructions from the experts on the "best" foot
strikes or arm swings or vary the shoes we wear - but is there a way we
could we find an internal compass that can reliably lead us to strong,
efficient, and graceful running, directed from the inside by our own
experience?In
this workshop we will do several Awareness Through Movement® lessons
which can both clarify our experience of the mechanics of running as
well as awaken our capacity to attend to many details of ourselves as we
run. As Moshe Feldenkrais often said, "When you know what you are
doing, you can do what you want." Do you know what you are doing as
you run? In your hip joints? In your ribs? With your arms? Your abs?
Your toes? With your attention?
This
workshop is open to those who compete in races, those who have never
run but would like to, those who used to run but it hurt too much, and those who think
that running is impossible. The
short running parts of the workshop are optional for those with
injuries, or who do not run, and the learning and discoveries in the
floor lessons (like most things Feldenkrais) can be applied to myriad
aspects of life beyond running.
$75 prepaid, $80 drop
in. Cost of the class will include an mp3 CD of several of the lessons
from the workshop for your home use. (We recently saw a similar workshop advertised in the Chi Running system
at 3 times the cost! It's a deal!)To register online, click here.
