Living Joyfully: Committing to Joy
|
|
Have you ever considered making a commitment to happiness? Because Yoga is Bliss - Samadhi - committing to Joy may be the deepest Yoga practice of all. What if you lived every day as if it were whole - not a step toward something or away from it, but a complete, perfect experience in itself. Many traditions suggest that this wholeness, this deep connection with the present, is the key to Bliss. In Yoga, we often meditate in order to live in the present, detaching our mind from past or future, wholly and ecstatically experiencing the Now. In Nietzsche's existential philosophy, it is "living dangerously" - making
every choice in the present as if you would joyfully choose it over and over again across a thousand lifetimes. In the Judeo-Christian tradition, the model is Abraham, who, according to the ancient text, "lived every day of his life." A good friend of mine, a Hebraic scholar once pointed out, Why would it be necessary to put the phrase that way, unless it were possible not to live every day of one's life? Of course, we can all just plod along, waiting for life to show us something. But wouldn't it be more fun to really live every day? Yoga's techniques of harmonious living, breathing, movement, pratyahara, concentration and meditation lead us to this place of possibility. Don't underestimate the power of intention and commitment! Consider how much more motivated
you are to help others when you feel joyful and good! This is the kind
of light that brightens everyone's day. Cultivate the positive. Live joyfully. Commit to happiness over and over again. Live every day of your life.
"Bliss is the vibration that intelligence sends out into the
world..." -Deepak Chopra
I wish you all a week (and a lifetime) of abundant well-being. Namaste ~Erin

Move Like a Kid Again! |
|
Do you remember what it was like to move as a kid? The lightness, the
vitality, the ease, the playful quality that infused your movement?
What if those qualities did not have to be lost in adulthood? In this
workshop we will explore many aspects of what is is like to move like a
kid. We will work with developmental movement sequences - how we first
learned to move in the world, and the patterns that underlie our
walking, running etc. - and we'll revisit movements that often disappear
from the the adult movement repertoire like squatting, rolling and
transitioning with ease and pleasure from the floor. Let's reconnect with our ability to have qualities of ease, pleasure, joy and
curiosity as natural expressions of how we move in the world.

Improve Your Golf Game
|
|
A Feldenkrais Workshop with Erin Geesaman & Carl RabkeAugust 15, 1-4:30 pm. $45 in advance, $50 at the door. In
this workshop we will explore the art
of the golf swing. In classic Feldenkrais style, we will not be telling
you a list of things to do or rules to follow to improve your swing,
(you probably have enough of those already!) but rather we will be
setting up the context for you to discover, though movement
explorations and paying attention to many details of your organization,
how to find more power, balance, ease and
accuracy in your golf game, while reducing the risk of injuring
yourself. As you bring more awareness to how you do what you do what
you do, then, as Dr. Feldenkrais often said, you can begin to do what
you want. Imagine playing golf with a sense of choice and intention
rather than habit and
compulsion. Whether you are a golf hack or a golf pro or somewhere in
between,
these lessons can help to refresh your game, and are likely to support
you in finding ease and improved function in many other areas of life
as well.
