DHS Band earns fifth at Friendswood; headed to Galena Park contest Oct. 6
Despite competing in the pouring rain, the Dickinson High School Gator Marching Band prevailed at the Friendswood Marching Contest this past weekend to earn fifth place in the preliminary competition and another fifth place finish in finals. They were one of 10 bands chosen to advance to the finals competition. In addition, the DHS Drum Line was named the Most Outstanding Drum Line.
The band is continuing to fine tune and make changes to the performance before heading to UIL competition later this month. In the meantime, the band will perform at the Galena Park Marching Festival this Saturday, October 6 at the Galena Park ISD Athletic Stadium, 15025 Wallisville Road, against 40 other bands. The DHS Band is scheduled to perform at 5 p.m.

DHS Homecoming Festivities
planned for week of October 8
The Gator spirit will be evident throughout the community next week as Dickinson High School celebrates Homecoming. Here are some of the highlights:
Homecoming Parade The entire community is invited to come line the streets and celebrate Homecoming at the annual parade on Wednesday, October 10. The event is truly a district-wide and community event with floats from schools at all grade levels as well as some community floats. The parade will start at the shopping center at FM 517 and 1266 and head east on FM 517 to Dickinson High School, turn left on Baker Drive in front of DHS and end at Sam Vitanza Stadium. A special thanks to the shopping center businesses for allowing the district to use to their parking lot as a starting point and line up area each year. Line-up will begin at 4:45 p.m. in the shopping center parking lot, with the parade getting underway at 5:30 p.m. Immediately following the parade, there will be a community-wide pep rally in Sam Vitanza Stadium. The freshman, sophomore and junior Homecoming Court representatives will be recognized. At the senior level, King and Queen finalists will be recognized and the Homecoming King will be announced.
Homecoming Game The Dickinson High School Gators will take on Clear Creek High School at the Homecoming Game scheduled for Friday, October 12 at Sam Vitanza Stadium. The crowing of the Homecoming Queen will take place before the game at approximately 6:40 p.m. with kick-off following at 7 p.m.
DISD Alumni Association Tailgate Event The Dickinson ISD Alumni Association Tailgate Event is planned before the game from 5-7 p.m. in the home parking lot outside Sam Vitanza Stadium. All alumni members and former Dickinson High School graduates are invited and encouraged to attend. Refreshments will be available.
Gator Alumni Band Former Dickinson High School band members are being sought to once again march on the field and play their instrument with the Gator Band as part of the Homecoming celebration October 12. DHS Student Activities Some special activities and celebrations are planned for the week of October 8-12 for DHS students. With the theme "Keep Calm and Chomp On," the spirit week will include twin day on Monday, Hawaiian Day on Tuesday, jersey day on Wednesday, senior dress up day on Thursday and blue and white day on Friday. The students will also enjoy their annual carnival during lunch periods on Homecoming Day Friday. The Dickinson Diamonds drill team will be sponsoring the Homecoming Dance for students from 7-11 p.m. Saturday, October 13 in the DHS Vintage Gymnasium.

DISD Alumni Association plans Distinguished Alumni and Hall of Honor event October 27
Five Dickinson High School alumni will be recognized October 27 when the Dickinson ISD Alumni Association and the Dickinson High School Athletic Hall of Honor sponsor their annual recognition banquet.
The Distinguished Alumni inductees are:
* Larry Keast - a Class of 1960 graduate who founded Venturetech Corporation and the non-profit organization, America in Recovery. * Dr. Mike Magliolo - a Class of 1968 graduate and local doctor with Dickinson OB/Gyn who is very involved in the Dickinson community. * David Ford - a Class of 1971 graduate who has worked for and served as Chairman of the Board with Los Ninos International, an international adoption service * Julie Dues Masters - a Class of 1974 graduate who has served as Mayor of the City of Dickinson since 2005
The Athletic Hall of Honor inductee is:
* Amanda Marshall Spencer - a Class of 1995 graduate being recognized for her accomplishments in volleyball and softball. Today, Amanda is a Coach and Women's Athletic Coordinator at Moody High School in Moody, Texas.
