Billye Smith joins district as DHS Principal

Billye Smith, DHS principal It didn't take long for the Dickinson ISD administration to find a top candidate for its high school principal position. In fact it took only about two weeks. In a special called meeting in July, the Board of Trustees voted 7-0 to hire Billye Smith as the campus' new leader. Smith replaces Kellie Edmundson, who took a position with another school district.

Smith comes to Dickinson from Pasadena ISD where she has served as Associate Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction for grades 7-12 for the past three years.

"This is an incredible opportunity for me," Smith said. "I am so excited about getting back with the kids. That is what I love most. I have enjoyed curriculum, but I love mentoring kids and getting right in there with them."

Before heading to administration at Pasadena, Smith served as principal at Pasadena Memorial High School for nine years, where she played a large role in the construction of that campus. With construction work still ongoing at DHS, Smith said she looks forward to the challenges of improving, not only the building, but the instruction and learning at the campus.

"I am excited to get going," she said. "I have a lot to do in a short amount of time to get the school year going. We are going to make it a great one."
