Get involved in the new PTO at Dickinson High

The Dickinson High School PTO has been formed and is working to enhance and support the educational experience of Dickinson High School; to develop a closer connection between school, home and community by encouraging involvement; and to improve the environment at DHS through volunteer and financial support. PTO brings groups together to share thoughts and ideas about programs and activities that benefit our children.

Officers for 2012-2013 include: President Mira Greene, Vice President Lisa Padgett, Secretary Julie Ferrell and Treasurer Libby Salas Moreno.

Behind every successful organization are people that make it happen. Volunteers are needed for committees and events. If you would like to get involved, for even as little as two hours next year, please contact Ellen Silvas, Dickinson High School Parent Liaison, at 281-229-7814 or esilvas@dickinsonisd.org.

Calder Road fourth graders develop "slime" business and donate profits to local family

Calder Road slime projectAs part of a cross-curricular unit on the free enterprise system, the students in Jennifer Lorenzo's fourth grade classes at Calder Road Elementary developed a business to make and sell slime. After students made a name for their company, "Slime-O-My," the group obtained a $50 loan from the school's PTO for supplies. Then, they conducted market research to determine the supply and demand levels of various slime colors. They made and sold more than 300 individual packages to students and made a total of $233.95. After repaying their loan to the PTO and having a small ice cream party, the students donated the remaining $150 to a Dickinson family who recently lost their home in a fire.
