Free recreation and meal program offered to students during the summer
The Dickinson Independent School District and the City of Dickinson are offering a free summer recreation program at Dunbar Middle School from Monday, June 11 through Thursday, June 28. The program is offered Monday-Thursday during this three-week period from 8:30 a.m. to 12 noon for students in kindergarten through sixth grade and from 12 noon to 3 p.m. for students in grades 7-12.
Participants will take part in activities such as basketball, ping-pong, board games and outdoor recreation. Parents need to register participants at Dunbar beginning Monday, June 11. The district does not provide transportation for this program.
In addition, the district's Food and Nutrition Services Department will provide free meals to all children of the Dickinson, San Leon, Bacliff and surrounding communities who are 18 years of age and under at the following locations and times.
Dunbar Middle School June 11-28 - Breakfast from 8:30-9 a.m. and lunch from 11:45-12:15 p.m.
Dickinson High School June 12-28 - Lunch only is served from 10-10:30 a.m.
Silbernagel Elementary June 4-28 and July 16-Aug. 2 - Breakfast from 7:45-8:15 a.m. and lunch from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Two seniors sign to play college sports
Justin Jenkins will be attending Sam Houston State University in Huntsville after signing papers with the SHSU Track Team. Justin had an impressive senior year on the DHS Track Team, representing DHS at the State Track Meet where he earned second place in the long jump. He is pictured with his parents, Shona and Cedric Anderson, and track coaches Marvin Welch and David Kautz.

Kenneth "KC" Steblein will be a cheerleader and on the swim team through scholarships he has earned through McMurry University in Abilene. He is pictured signing his college sports papers while Swimming Coach Brittany Schroeder, Athletic Director John Snelson and Cheerleading Sponsor Jennifer Carse look on. He is the son of Colleen Steblein.
