San Leon Elementary receives $10,000 donation from Box Tops for Education
There was a new principal at San Leon Elementary for a few hours this past Friday when national radio host Dr. Isabel Gomez-Bassols visited the school to serve as "Principal for a Day," deliver a motivational message to students and give the school a special donation.
Dr. Isabel, along with Zack Ruderman, Director of the Box Tops for Education program, presented the school with a $10,000 donation. Marisa Gonzalez, mom of third grader Cassandra Trejo, entered the school in a recent Principal for a Day sweepstakes sponsored by Box Tops for Education, which in addition to the guest appearance from Dr. Isabel, included the donation of 100,000 box tops valued at $10,000. San Leon Elementary was the lucky winner.
During her visit to San Leon, Dr. Isabel met with Cassandra's class, toured the school, spoke at a school assembly, attended a kindergarten music performance and met with parents. She is well-known Hispanic radio psychologist with a live, call-in talk show, "Doctora Isabel," on weekday afternoons on the Spanish-language RadioCadena Univision. America's schools have earned more than $445 million through the Box Tops for Education program, which has been supported by General Mills since 1996. This included more than $67 million in 2011 alone. San Leon is excited about the $10,000 donation and administrators are looking into how to use the money to benefit all students.
