Dickinson High School Gatorzillas win prestigious award at robotics regional contest; now advance to Championships
The DHS Gatorzillas are gearing up to compete against robotics teams from across the world at the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Championships after earning the Chairman's Award at the regional competition this past weekend. The robotics team was honored to receive this award, which is considered the most prestigious award given out at the FIRST competition. The award honors the team that best represents a model for other teams to emulate and best embodies the purpose and goals of FIRST.
The DHS team was the only group competing at the regional competition to bring along dozens of younger robotics team students from Dickinson ISD elementary and middle schools. The trip was funded through a grant from the Dickinson ISD Education Foundation to give the younger students an opportunity to see what they can do with robotics in high school.
By earning the Chairman's Award, the DHS Robotics team will now advance to the Championship competition April 25-28, in St. Louis, Missouri.
