Celebrate Texas Public Schools throughout March with open houses and other events
 
Celebrate Texas Public Schools logoEach day, Dickinson ISD students acquire new skills as they Imagine, Explore and Discover new information, engaging their minds and bodies, building their educational foundations and futures. Throughout March, Dickinson ISD campuses and departments will be spotlighting the exciting accomplishments of our students at open houses, music programs and other special events. Parents and the community are invited and encouraged to participate and support our Dickinson ISD students.

The month kicks off tonight, March 1, with drama performances and open houses at Barber Middle School and Dunbar Middle School, while second graders at Bay Colony Elementary and first graders at San Leon will have music performances.

Next week, McAdams Junior High will have an open house the evening of Tuesday, March 6, followed by the Hughes Road Elementary open house the evening of Thursday, March 8.

Dickinson ISD to host Health &
Epicurea
n Evening on March 8

 
On Thursday, March 8, Dickinson ISD will host a Health and Epicurean Evening coordinated by the Food and Nutrition Services Department and the Student Health Advisory Committee. The event will take place from 5-7 p.m. at McAdams Junior High. Students and parents are invited to taste and evaluate various food products being considered for school menus. Health screenings and information will be available. Also at this time, UTMB will be on hand for those wanting to donate to the blood bank. Successful donors will get a t-shirt. All DISD parents, students and community members are invited to attend this free event.
Business Professionals of America students competing at state competition this weekend

Seventeen Dickinson High School students are in Dallas through this weekend competing at the Business Professionals of America State Leadership Conference. Good luck to these students and their sponsors as they represent DHS at the state level.

DHS Power Lifters headed to regional meet

The DHS Gators Power Lifting team took home first place at the Houston Promax meet. Ten lifters advanced to the Regional meet which will be held March 10 in Alief Taylor.

 

The following lifters will represent DHS: Kenny Nguyen (Jr) with a total weight lifted of 1,100 pounds, Cecilio Hernendez (Fr) 815 pounds, John Le (Sr) 1,245 pounds, Justin Gary (Sr) 1,400 pounds, Victor Tran (Sr) 1,380 pounds, Scott Duke (Sr) 1,300 pounds, Lorenzo Castaneda (Sr) 1,625 pounds, Tim Jenkins (Sr) 1,730 pounds, Byron Williams (Sr) 1,610 pounds and Joe Lloreda (Sr) 1,470 pounds.

DHS golf team finishes in 2nd place
in Galveston Invitational

Congratulations go out to the Dickinson High School golf team for placing second in the Galveston Invitational at Moody Gardens. The team finished just one point behind the winner of the competition. DHS golf coaches believe this is the first time the boys golf team has  finished in the top three in a varsity golf competition.  

 

Race Southworth tied for medalist honors with a score of 78. Other team members finished with great scores as well: Brent Butler (87), Charles Barkmann (87), Clay Pendergraft (89), and Robert Ross (93).

Four Dickinson FFA competitors bring
home honors from San Antonio contest

Four girls representing the Dickinson Future Farmers of America competed at the San Antonio Livestock Show and Rodeo. The following students placed in the competition: Ashlynn Schuett -12th overall in class, Courtney Olney -8th overall in class, Elizabeth Burk -7th overall in class and Cristina Perez -5th overall in class.
DHS hosts first-ever Solo & Ensemble Festival; Numerous students earn top honors

On Feb. 6, the Dickinson High School Band hosted its first-ever Solo and Ensemble Festival. Several students from DHS earned top honors at the festival.
