Filing underway through March 5 for Board positions in single-member districts 3 and 4
Candidate filing for the 2012 Dickinson ISD Board of Trustees election will take place through 5 p.m. Monday, March 5. Single-member districts three and four, currently held by Fritzie Samford and Jeff Pittman, are up for election of three-year terms. The election is scheduled for Saturday, May 12.
Anyone residing in these districts that is interested in filing for the election can pick up a candidate application packet in the Education Support Center, located at 2218 FM 517 East.

Call for Education Foundation grants
The Dickinson ISD Education Foundation is now accepting grant proposals through Feb. 29 for innovative teaching grant ideas. All Dickinson ISD employees should have received the application in their email. You may also attach additional grant information with your completed application. Please remember to have your principal review and sign-off on your application, along with any other required
administrative signatures as they apply.
Applications need to be submitted to Assistant Superintendent Rhonda Parmer's office no later than 4 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 29.

McAdams Band students bring home honors
McAdams Junior High Band students participated in the annual Solo and Ensemble contest Feb. 2. The students performed solos with piano accompaniment for a judge and received ratings and feedback on their development and progress on their instruments. A total of 142 students received a Division I Superior rating from the judges. The students also performed in small ensembles, groups of players ranging 3 to 11 members. Forty-one ensembles earned a Division I rating.
This year a new award was added to reward students. At the conclusion of the contest, each judge awarded students who had performed to a higher degree with the Outstanding Soloist Award. Eighteen students earned this award they were:
Ayleen Guevara- flute, Tyler Pulkinen- Tenon Sax, Amber Sherman-flute, Jacori Clements-percussion, Joseph Rodriguez- Alto Sax, Mikayla Roseboro- flute, Harold Love- percussion, Joeisha Foreman- Percussion, Jacob Perales- Percussion, Jesse Ott- Trumpet, Melody Stout- Trombone, Jackson Lambert- Trombone, Alex Rutter- French Horn, Alison Guffey- French Horn, David Wright- Bari Sax, Hannah Sharer- Flute, Abby Edgerton- Flute and Shelbi Cormier- Flute
All the students are to be commended for their hard work and dedication in their preparation for this contest. The students are taught by John Hinojosa, Robert Baker and Mary Santarelli.

Dickinson FFA shines at livestock showdown
The Dickinson Future Farmers of America got a chance recently to show their livestock in a match up against the Friendswood FFA, and several DISD students were given awards for their animals.
In the Breeding Heifers Division, Courtney Olney was the Grand Champion. Cristina Perez, Jacob O'kelley, Elizabeth Burk and Ashlynn Schuett finished second in class. Kathryn Boyd was first in class and third in class.
In the Market Steer Division, John Pelzel was the Grand Champion and Courtney Olney was the Reserve Champion. Brad Peters finished first in class, while Chadham Brooks finished first in class and second in class. Cristina Perez, Brittany Wood and Victoria Pelzel were also second in class. Stormy Gulley was third in class.
In the Steer Showmanship Division, John Pelzel was named Grand Champion/Best in Show and Victoria Pelzel was Reserve Champion/Best in Show.
In the Market Goats Division, Morgan Perez was Grand Champion. Nick Stirn and Courtney Olney finished second in class. Dalton Padgett was third and fifth in class, while Elizabeth Burk was third in class. Alyssa Morgan was fourth in class, Skylyn Collins was fifth in class and Felix Dehoyos was sixth in class. Elizabeth Burk was also named as Grand Champion/Best of Show in the Goat Showmanship Division.
In the Market Pigs Division, Erica Bennett and Kendall Bernal finished first in class. Marjorie Wilson, Cristina Perez, Gabby Bernal and Christian Wilson finished second in class. Taylor Webb, Jordan Sivy, Aleisa Patina, Jackson Mitchiner and Slade Windsor were third in class. Fourth in class were Johnelle Williams and Kai Drinnen. Terry Luedtke was sixth in class, while Taz Smalley and Justin Sartor were seventh in class. Cody Coleman finished eighth in class.
In the Pig Junior Showmanship Division, Christian Wilson was the Grand Champion/Best in Show and Kendall Bernal was the Reserve Champion/Best in Show. In the Senior Pig Showmanship Division, Gabby Bernal was the Reserve Champion/Best in Show.
