Snelson approved as new Dickinson ISD Athletic Director and Head Football Coach
John Snelson will be joining the Dickinson Independent School District as the district's Athletic Director and Head Football Coach at Dickinson High School. Snelson comes to Dickinson ISD from Pasadena ISD, where he has served as Campus Coordinator and Head Football Coach at Pasadena Memorial High School for the past six years.
He has led the PMHS Mavericks varsity football team to the playoffs six years in a row with a District Championship in 2009, Bi-District Championships in 2007 and 2009 and Area Championships in 2007. The team was voted the 2010 Houston Touchdown Club Sportsmanship Award Winner. Snelson also serves on the Board of Directors for Region 5 for the Texas High School Coaches Association.
"Dickinson ISD is excited to welcome John Snelson to our district. In addition to his winning record as Head Football Coach in Pasadena, we believe his experience and character will provide our athletes and all students in our district with an outstanding role model," said Superintendent Vicki Mims.
Snelson has worked in Pasadena ISD since 2001, where he coached football and track and was head of the Physical Education Department at PMHS before moving into the Head Football Coach position in 2006. Before coming to Pasadena, he coached in Diboll ISD, East Chambers ISD and Tarkington ISD. Snelson graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in physical education and sports management from Southwest Baptist University and his education certification from Stephen F. Austin. He has 18 years of education and coaching experience.
Snelson will be replacing Warren Trahan, who will be retiring at the end of January.

Four more DISD students earn Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo Art honors
Four additional Dickinson High School students earned top honors in the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Art Show after 3D art judging took place this past Friday. The four students were among only 40 chosen from throughout the Houston area in the 3D judging.
A best of show award was earned by sophomore Brittany Rhodes for her functional ceramics category piece titled, "The Beautiful Wildflower." Three gold medals were awarded to DHS students in the sculpture category. They included junior Nicolas Cooper for "Battle," senior Abraham Morales for "The One That Got Away," and senior Rachel Benjamin for "She Thinks My Tractors Sexy."
The artwork for these four students and the seven other DISD best of show and gold medal winners will be on display at the Houston Rodeo Feb. 28-Mar. 18. The high school honorees will advance to the Grand Prix judging with winners from throughout the Houston area where 50 pieces are chosen for the Rodeo Art Auction. Dickinson ISD has been fortunate to have students advance to the art auction several times in the past.
