The Dickinson Independent School District campuses will be closed on Monday, Jan. 16. Students and staff will have the day off in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Classes will resume on Tuesday, Jan. 17.
 
Seven DISD students earn top honors
 in district's Houston Rodeo Art contest


The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Art Judging Team visited the Dickinson ISD Art Show January 5 to view the entries of 311 students. Three students received Best of Show honors, while four students earned Gold Medals. In addition to these seven awards, the School Art Committee awarded Dickinson ISD students with 21 Finalist ribbons, 122 blue ribbons, 119 red ribbons and 42 white ribbons. Special recognition goes to the following seven students for advancing to the Houston show.

Elementary Category (grades K-4):

These students have opportunities to compete for summer art school scholarships, possibly advance to the art auction, as well as attend a rodeo performance. The artwork of the Dickinson ISD Best of Show and Gold Medal winners is displayed Feb. 28 - Mar. 18 at the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo, along with those from other area school districts. From those winning entries, the 50 top pieces of art, as determined by the Grand Prix Judging, are included in the annual auction. Dickinson ISD has been fortunate to have students advance to the art auction several times.
Kenna Cotton to lead K.E. Little as principal
Robert Ford is new AP at McAdams Jr. High

Kenna Cotton is the new principal of K.E. Little Elementary School. The board approved the promotion as the Jan. 9 board meeting. Cotton has served as assistant principal at McAdams Junior High since coming to Dickinson ISD in 2008. She replaces Melissa Williams, who moved into the position of Director of Information Systems.

Robert FordThe Board also approved hiring Robert Ford as the new assistant principal at McAdams Junior High. He comes to Dickinson ISD from Alvin ISD, where he currently serves as a social studies teacher at Manvel Junior High. He will start at McAdams later this month.

Congratulations to both of these employees on their new positions. 
School Board Recognition Night
is set for Monday, Jan. 23

  
The Dickinson Independent School District Board of Trustees will recognize student accomplishments from the first half of the school year at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 23 in the McAdams Junior High Auditorium. Students being honored will receive an invitation the week of Jan. 16 at their campus.
