Board approves Single-Member Redistricting map
The Board of Trustees approved 7-0 at its regular December meeting Monday, the proposed map for Single-Member Redistricting. The district is required to go through this process every 10 years after the United States Census is complete. With the guidance of the law firm of Thompson and Horton, LLP and demographer Dennis Harner, the new map divides the number of residents in each district to between 6,981 and 7,715.
The map now must be sent to the United States Justice Department where it must be evaluated and approved before being implemented. The timeline is to have the new map in place for the May 2012 school board elections.
The maps can be viewed on the school district website homepage at www.dickinsonisd.org. A large version of the map is also on display in the Education Support Center, at 2218 FM 517 East.
Please note that this IS NOT a map for school attendance boundaries. The map and the single-member redistricting process is solely for the purpose of defining which area of the school district a particular board member represents.
