Elementary students get very special visit

Children receiving treatment at the Shriner's Burn Hospital in Galveston and the Orthopaedic Hospital in Houston had a little holiday cheer delivered to them recently through the Holiday Card Run. This annual event, which is coordinated by the El Mina Shriners and the Dickinson Independent School District, involves DISD elementary students making homemade holiday cards, which are delivered to the children receiving treatment at the hospital.

Several members of the El Mina Shrine, along with student favorite Santa Claus, made a motorcycle tour through the district this past Friday stopping at each elementary campus to collect the cards from the students, who were all eagerly awaiting their arrival.

Silbernagel robotics group wins competition

Silb roboticsCongratulations go out to the Silbernagel Elementary Superior Bots for winning the robotics competition on Dec. 3 hosted by Barber Middle School. The robotics team from K.E. Little Elementary took home the sportsmanship award.

Dickinson ISD had five teams participate in the Barber competition including: K.E. Little Elementary, Silbernagel Elementary, San Leon Elementary, Dunbar Middle School and Barber Middle School.

The same day, Barber Middle School and San Leon Elementary sent another robotics team each to the Hogg Middle School tournament in Houston, where the Barber team earned the EARLY Ambassador Award.

Special thanks go out to the Barber Middle School Student Council for helping out with the competition and for being such a strong supporter of Dickinson Robotics. The Dickinson High School Gatorzillas, led by Celeste Brooks and Amber Hickey, and all of the Barber robotics parents also helped to make the competition a success.

Good job, DISD Robotics Teams!
McAdams Royal Dance team raises money for ballet training

MJHS DanceThe McAdams Royal Dance Team members have set and achieved their goal this year. The girls raised enough money to purchase ballet barres for the Dance Department at McAdams Junior High. Now the students can use the barres to properly train in ballet. The students really enjoy the new equipment and have learned so much from it already.
