San Leon Elementary debuts
new outdoor classroom


San Leon outdoor classroom pondLearning about science and nature has taken on a more hands-on approach at San Leon Elementary now that the school has unveiled its new outdoor classroom at a ribbon cutting and open house Nov. 9.

San Leon Outdoor Classroom pavilionComplete with a small pond and fish, a pavilion and areas to grow plants and vegetables, teachers will be able to take their classes out to the outdoor classroom to teach students about all these topics. The outdoor classroom was made possible through $11,000 in grants from the Dickinson ISD Education Foundation, Lowe's and DOW, plus help and contributions from a number of other businesses, teachers, parents, students and community members.
McAdams Band rakes in All- Region
and All- District Honors

   

Congratulations go out to 34 students from the McAdams band who earned positions in the All-Region and All-District Band. Four McAdams students also earned chair positions. Those students were: Abby Edgerton, Y-Vi Tran, Alison Guffey and Joeisha Foreman.

 

The following students qualified for Region and District Band:

Abby Edgerton, Hannah Sharer, Shelbi Cormier, Mikayla Roseboro, Vanessa Rodriguez, Anayatzi Ortiz, Gwenaelle Chevillard, Y-Vi Tran, Ozioma Okeke, Sydney Esders, Julia Dang, Ebone Washington  and Dazjanique Solomon. 

 

Also qualifying for Region Band were: Jesse Ott, Ryan Kennedy, Saleemah Thomas, Alison Guffey, Alex Rutter, Elijah Perez, Evan McCarty, Jackson Lambert, Chris O'Kelley, Joeisha Foreman, Jacob Perales and Harold Love. 

 

The following students qualified for All-District Band honors: Amber Sherman, Mandy Zapata, Jim Tran, Brayan Aguirre, Savanna Martin, Joseph Rodriguez, Jimmy Fulmer, Bryan Sims, and Malcolm Hall. 

 

Also through this audition, students were selected for the All-Region Orchestra based on their placement in the Region Band. McAdams had four students qualify for this honor: Abby Edgerton, Y-Vi Tran, Alison Guffey and Joeisha Foreman. 

 

The students are under the direction of John Hinojosa, head band director and Robert Baker and Mary Santarelli, assistant band directors.

DHS Choir students selected
 for regional honors

 

Congratulations to Dickinson High School Choir students Brianna Bell and Samantha Jaramillo on being selected for the Region Treble Choir.

Nine students from DHS were also selected as Director's Choice selections in the Region Honor Choir. Those students are: Rosie Calderon, Dakota Davis, Karina Helguero, Robyn Reichie, Haley Slone, Cole Turner, Jeffrey Wadkins and Dallas Ware.

McAdams 7th Grade football
B team has perfect season

Congratulations to McAdams 7th Grade Football B Team for being named South Zone Champions and District Champions. The Gators ended the season with an undefeated record. The team is coached by Matthew Klingenberg and Rodney Strambler. Way to go, Gators!!!
