Monday, Oct. 31, is a holiday for all Dickinson ISD students. The day will be used for faculty and staff development.

Help Dickinson ISD Stuff the Bus
for M. I. Lewis Food Pantry

The Dickinson ISD annual Stuff the Bus Food Drive will take place Nov. 1-11. For the next two weeks students, parents and staff members are encouraged to bring in non-perishable food items and monetary donations to benefit the M.I. Lewis Food Pantry. Through a relationship with the Houston Food Bank, M.I. Lewis is able to purchase $10 worth of food with only $1.

This food drive provides several months of food for the food pantry, which serves families throughout the Dickinson ISD boundaries. Donations will be accepted at all Dickinson ISD campuses. The class at each campus collecting the most items will be presented with the campus Stuff the Bus traveling trophy.

Reminder: Empty Stocking
registration next week

Registration for Empty Stocking will take place at Dickinson High School on Tuesday, Nov. 1, and Wednesday, Nov. 2, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Coordinated by the Dickinson Interfaith Lay Group, the Empty Stocking program has been providing food and toys during the holidays to hundreds of econonically disadvantaged families each year since the early 1960's. Last year, the group provided over 1,000 area children, from birth through 12 years old, with holiday gifts.

"It's Up To Me To Be Drug Free"
Students celebrate Red Ribbon Week

Students throughout the district were declaring "It's Up To Me To Be Drug Free" thanks to Red Ribbon Week ribbons donated by Maxim Insurance. Activities were also planned on the campuses to honor Red Ribbon Week.

Students from Barber Middle School who participate in Mrs. Sandoval's and Ms. Holman's lunch groups kicked off Red Ribbon Week with a guest speaker from the Bay Area Council on Drugs and Alcohol (BACODA). Toy Jones spoke with the students about the #1 gateway drug, tobacco. The students were educated on the harmful and life changing effects of using tobacco products. Ms. Jones discussed prevention tips and how to resist the temptation of smoking or chewing tobacco. A big thank you goes out to BACODA for educating our students and helping them live a drug free life.

Calder Road Elementary
celebrates Unity Day

Students at Calder Road Elementary made chains and wore orange in celebration of Unity Day. The campus wanted to show a united front in hopes of putting an end to bullying. The chain was made up of pledges from each student promising not to participate in bullying and to stand up for those who are being bullied. Good job!!
