Dickinson ISD considering options
for former Education Support Center

The Dickinson Independent School District Board of Trustees is considering several options for the district's former Education Support Center, located at 4512 Highway 3. The facility was left vacant after most employees moved into the new ESC at 2218 FM 517 East in March. Because the site is not large enough to accommodate a school, the district has no need for the building. It can either sell the site or take no action and let the building continue to deteriorate.  The Board is hopeful that a community group may be interested in purchasing the property.

Because of the financial situation facing the district, the $15,000 annual cost to maintain the site is of concern. In addition, the building's air conditioning and heating systems are not working and the district will have to spend $70,000 to get the systems operational in order to keep the building from developing mold.

The 4.59 acre site is located directly across from Dickinson City Hall and has direct access from Highway 3. As a governmental agency, Dickinson ISD must only accept fair market value offers. Any organization that is interested in purchasing the site or would like more information, is encouraged to call Superintendent Vicki Mims at 281-229-6022.
