Dr. Williams on Thursday, October 13

Leland WilliamsThe community is invited to a retirement reception honoring Dr. Leland Williams for his 16 years of service in the Dickinson Independent School District. Dr. Williams has served as the district's Superintendent since 1995 and was instrumental in the completion of three successful bond issues, increasing the district's fund balance, leading the district to earn its first-ever recognized district achievement this school year, as well as many recognized and exemplary achievements at the campus level.

The reception will take place in DISD's Education Support Center, 2218 FM 517 East, from 3 p.m.- 5 p.m. Oct. 13.
DISD gets new energy efficient buses

busesEight brand new school buses made their way to Dickinson ISD last week. These new buses are part of two grants the district was awarded from the Department of Energy and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. The grants gave the district over two million dollars to purchase 26 new propane buses and get rid of 25 diesel buses.

The grant will also fund a propane fueling station for the district. The station is already in the works and will be completed soon. Dickinson ISD is one of the few districts in the country to be awarded these grants and the district is leading the way in energy efficiency. DISD will receive 18 more propane buses, straight off the assembly line, in the next few months. Congratulations to the DISD Transportation Department for all of your hard work!
Reminder: DHS Homecoming events
are next week

The annual Dickinson High School Homecoming parade will be held Wednesday, Oct. 12 at 5:30 p.m. The parade will start at the corner of FM 517 and 1266, ending at Sam Vitanza Stadium. Immediately following the parade, there will be a community-wide pep rally in the stadium.

The Homecoming Game is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14 against Alvin High School. The Homecoming festivities, including introduction of the court and crowning of the queen, will take place before the start of the game at approximately 6:40 p.m.

Community can track energy usage too

The Dickinson community can now track their energy usuage the same way Dickinson ISD does and hopefully it will save them money. The GreenQuest energy tracking software is now available for in home use. The program is easy to use and quick to set up. You will need recent copies of your bills for electricity, water and natural gas to get started.

To use GreenQuest, go to the homepage at www.energycap.com/products/greenquest and click Start using GreenQuest. User-friendly GreenQuest is free for individual households and small businesses.
