DISD students help families in Bastrop

BastropTwo McAdams Junior High teachers and some very giving students came up with the idea to start collecting items for the families in Bastrop that lost everything in the wildfires. It didn't take long for the idea to catch on and before they knew it boxes were filling up with toiletries and other necessities. Teachers Christopher Weld and Amy Morneau organized the effort and dropped the donated items off at the Dickinson Veterans of Foreign Wars headquarters. The VFW members will take the donations on to Bastrop. The teachers were surprised by the amount of donations collected but said they were not surprised by the effort of this community. Since experiencing Hurricane Ike, Dickinson ISD families have always found a way to give back to those in need.

Bastrop2Over at K.E. Little Elementary teachers and students have been helping the Bastrop families by donating their spare change. The school is calling the campaign "Buckets of Caring Coins for Bastrop." They have received over $600 in coins. The money will be donated to the American Red Cross to be used for the Bastrop families.

Good job, Gators!!!

The Dickinson High School FFA
wants to wash your dog

Starting tomorrow the DHS Future Farmers of America will be starting a new program that could help you with your furry friends. The program is only offered to DISD employees and it will give you a chance to bring your dog to work with you. All you have to do is drop your dog off at the high school, leave them to get pampered all day and pick them up on your way home. The students will earn lab hours while they babysit, exercise, bathe and brush your dog. The lab will be open on Thursdays and Fridays from 7:00 a.m.- 2:30 p.m. Click here for more information about the services and how to make an appointment.

The FFA will also be hosting another fundraiser September 24 at Baskins. On that day you can get your car washed and buy a BBQ sandwich between 10 a.m.- 2:00 p.m. All proceeds go to the FFA booster club.
DISD Education Foundation Astros Nights

On September 24 and 25 the Houston Astros will make a donation to the Dickinson ISD Education Foundation for every ticket sold. The Astros will be playing the Colorado Rockies at Minute Maid Park Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon for family day. The Education Foundation urges all Dickinson ISD employees and community members to attend and help out the foundation. Prices range from $10- $32. For more information, contact the Education Foundation at 281-229-6088.
