DISD alumni will be honored at gala
The Dickinson ISD Education Foundation Alumni Association and Athletic Hall of Honor will hold their annual banquet at 6 p.m. Oct. 29 at the Moody Gardens Hotel in Galveston.
The 2011 Distinguished Alumni inductees are:
- Shamarion Barber, Class of 1952
- Garland "Preston" Bullard, Class of 1952
- Ernie Deats, Class of 1958
- Stephen Holmes, Class of 1983
The 2011 Athletic Hall of Honor inductees are:
- Christie Feliz-Miller, Class of 2004
- Jacquelyn Schulte-Rodriquez, Class of 2002

DHS Band performs for American Legion
 The Dickinson High School band got rave reviews after performing for many veterans at the League City American Legion "Taps Across America" event. The group performed during the emotional ceremony to honor those in World War II that have already passed away.

McAdams' Royal Dance team
ready for football season
The Royal Dance Team at Mc Adams Junior High will be performing at half time for all the 8th grade home games on Thursdays during football season. The games start at 5 p.m. at Sam Vitanza Stadium on the Dickinson High School campus. The first game is on Sept. 14.

DISD Robotics meeting scheduled
A district-wide Robotics meeting is planned for 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 8 in the Dickinson High School Cafeteria. Parents and students involved in a Robotics Club at any Dickinson ISD campus are invited to attend.

Two DISD schools have new phone numbers
Over the summer the DISD Technology Department was hard at work setting up new phone lines for Bay Colony Elementary and Silbernagel Elementary. Now every DISD campus phone number begins with 281-229, with the last four digits changing for each campus. Here are the new numbers:

CHAMPS Program needs volunteers
For 22 years, Dickinson ISD students needing extra help with reading have been participating in the district's CHAMPS Program (Community Helpers Accelerate Many Promising Students). The program offers one-on-one mentoring to elementary students needing extra assistance with reading. Community members, parents, grandparents and more volunteer one hour a week at one of the six Dickinson ISD elementary campuses to listen to a first through fourth grade student read a book of his or her choice. CHAMPS volunteers are free to volunteer at the school of his or her choice.
