Debate is coming back to DHS

After losing the program several years ago, a policy and debate program is coming back to Dickinson High School. The program will start a new chapter of the National Forensic League.

Dickinson High School has had much success with debate in the past. DHS alumnus and former debater, Aaron Timmons, was recently named the National Debate Coach's Association Teacher of the Year. Timmons has been inducted into the Hall of Fame for the National Forensic League, Tournament of Champions, and Texas Forensic Association. He is one of only three coaches in the history of the National Forensic League to have students win in National Championships in policy debate and Lincoln-Douglas Debate. He is also the only coach to have multiple champions in both divisions. He currently teaches at the Greenhill School in Addison, Texas.

Another alumnus and former DHS debater, David Keith Cobb, was a United States presidential candidate on the national ballot in 2004.

Dickinson High School is very excited to be bringing the program back to the district. With all of our gifted students, administrators believe the sky is the limit for the future DHS debate teams.

DHS senior signs letter of intent

BellamyDickinson High School senior Amber Bellamy received a scholarship to run track for Wayland Baptist University. Amber was a member of the DHS Gators varsity track team where she holds two records. She broke the DHS 800m record set in 1998, and she was also a part of
the 4x4 relay team that broke the 1997 DHS record of 4:14.36 by completing the race in 4:05.81.
