DISD names Teachers of the Year at gala

teacheroftheyear2010-2011The Dickinson ISD Education Foundation hosted its annual Seeds of Excellence Gala Friday night at South Shore Harbour. Capping off a wonderful event was the announcement of the DISD Teachers of the Year. The following teachers were chosen for each campus: Kimberly White, Bay Colony Elementary; Laura Brondo de Silva, Calder Road Elementary; Holly Troyer, Hughes Road Elementary; Sana Ali, K.E. Little Elementary; Amy McClellen, San Leon Elementary; Jennifer Rady, Silbernagel Elementary; Diane Nix, Barber Middle School; Charleen Watson, Dunbar Middle School; LaWanda Williams, McAdams Junior High; and Jennifer Sumrall, Dickinson High School. Out of the ten teachers chosen, two were selected to advance to the Region 4 Teacher of the Year contest. This year Amy McClellen from San Leon Elementary was selected as the elementary level winner and Diane Nix from Barber Middle School was selected as the secondary level winner. Amy has been teaching for five years, all in DISD. She currently teaches Kindergarten at San Leon Elementary. Diane is an academic coach at Barber Middle School. She has been teaching for 20 years, serving five of those years in DISD. Congratulations to all of our terrific teachers!!

K. E. Little Elementary celebrates space

spacedayK. E. Little Elementary students were in for a treat last week as they had some special space visitors on campus. Several employees from NASA and Lockheed Martin were at the school to teach the students all about space and what it takes to be an astronaut. Students got to eat space food, take a 3-D tour of the solar system, learn how to escape a space shuttle and they even got to meet a real astronaut. This is the 10-year anniversary of "Space Day" at K.E. Little Elementary.
