Barber set to host Robotics competition; DHS Gatorzillas plan open house
This Saturday, Feb. 19, Barber Middle School will host it's first ever EARLY (Engineering and Robotics Learned Young) robotics competition. Ten area teams will compete for four prizes -- Champion, Finalist, Best Rookie and Best Sportsmanship. Each team will participate in three seeded matches and then the top two scores will qualify for the finals. The matches will get underway at 9 a.m.
While the competition is going on, the Dickinson High School Gatorzillas will also be hosting an open house. From 10 a.m.-5 p.m. the students invite you to come see the Career and Technology Center at the high school. The center is where the DHS Robotics Club, also know as the Gatorzillas, does all of it's work. The Career and Technology Center is next to the high school tennis courts.
Robotics is quickly spreading to several Dickinson ISD campuses with teams currently at San Leon, Bay Colony and Silbernagel elementary campuses, Barber and Dunbar middle schools and Dickinson High School. |

Bay Colony and Calder elementary students celebrate Rodeo Day
Bay Colony Elementary students learned what it takes to participate in a rodeo and it's just in time for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. On Jan. 7, some very special guests taught the students how to two-step, be a rodeo clown, quilt and more. Some livestock animals were also at the school to teach students the importance of raising animals properly.
Calder Road Elementary will host a "Go Texan" Rodeo day on February 25. Students will be encouraged to dress the part as they learn all about the Rodeo and it's history. |
DHS artists prepare for rodeo competition
Two Dickinson High School students are getting ready for the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo Quick Draw Contest. Anna Novak and Mary Shapiro will be going to the rodeo on Feb. 26 to complete a drawing in 50 minutes while looking at a live model. Hundreds of kids apply by submitting a sketch for the few spots in this competition and DISD is honored to have two students selected. The winners will be announced that day. Good luck girls!! |
