DISD School Board will recognize
students at awards ceremony Jan. 24

The Dickinson Independent School District Board of Trustees is hosting an awards ceremony to honor student achievements and accomplishments for the first half of the 2010-2011 school year. The ceremony will take place at 6:30 p.m. Monday, January 24 in the McAdams Junior High Auditorium. Students being honored should have received an invitation within the last week at their school. Those students are asked to be at the awards ceremony by 6:15 p.m.

Parents and guests are invited to attend as we recognize the success of our students during the first half of the 2010-2011 school year.

Hughes Road staff lends a helping hand

Faculty and staff from Hughes Road Elementary are setting an example for their students by showing others what the holiday season is really about. On the first day of winter break, several DISD employees from the elementary school spent their Saturday handing out food and supplies at the M.I. Lewis Social Service Center. Principal Patricia Lankford organized the event after she saw the overwhelming need in the community. Hundreds waited in line for a chance to get the great items that would help them get through the holidays. Way to go Hughes Road Faculty and Staff!

MJHS Choir students get high notes

McAdams Junior High is celebrating after seven students were selected for the All-Region Choir. Those selected included Brianna Bell, Nicole Fredericksen, Shelby Sonnier, Robyn Reichle, James Llanos, Dylan Ware and Keegan Chapman-Winston. More than 700 choir students from 22 area schools auditioned for a place in the All-Region Choir. This selection is the highest honor an individual singer can achieve at the middle school level. The students are led by Michelle Bilek.
Three DHS Choir members recognized

The Texas Music Educators Accociation is recognizing three Dickinson High School Choir members for their outstanding singing. Marcus Bell, Rebekah Manthey and Tosobua Ogbe were selected for the All-District and All-Region choirs. Manthey was also given Pre-Area and Area honors. The students are led by Sybil Crawford.

Students create art to share a message

Three McAdams Junior High students are sharing an important message through their art. Faith Lee, Joyanna Mazzone and Jose Duran were recognized in the Fire Prevention Week Poster Contest, hosted by the Texas City Fire Department. Lee received first place, Mazzone was 2nd and Duran took home 3rd place. All three posters expressed the importance of fire safety, awareness and prevention. The McAdams Junior High art teachers are Pamela Presley and Holly Gottula.
