DCC celebrates Shakespeare in Action

Students at the Dickinson Continutation Center are learning the work of William Shakespeare by putting it into motion.
The Humanities classes from DCC reenacted two seperate scenes from his famous plays, All's Well that Ends Well, and Macbeth. Students were in charge of everything from the acting to the props. DCC Humanities is an interdisciplinary course in which students recognize writing as an art from.
MJHS Band students receive high honors

The McAdams Junior High Gator Band is celebrating after numerous students walked away from their regional band competition with honors. The competition was held at Friendswood High School back in November. All in all, McAdams had 51 students qualify for the Region or District Band. Way to go Gator Band!

DHS students master WordMasters Challenge

Several students from Dickinson High School are proving to be masters of prose and poetry. During this year's WordMasters Challenge, the students were asked to analyze essays and then asked questions about the literature. In the first meet, DHS sophomore Madison Gove made only two mistakes and placed among the 129 highest ranked tenth graders in the country. Freshmen Connor Ard, Anna Novak, Hannah Salas and Daniel Zermeno and juniors Christina Seifert and Hoai Huong Truong all earned honorable mention. More than 53,000 high schoolers from 46 different states and four foreign countries competed in the event. The students, along with their sponsor Donna Kautz, will attend three more meets this year.
MJHS Math Club by the numbers

McAdams' Math Club is staying busy this year by learning and observing the interesting world of mathmatics. A representative from Amoco started out the year by teaching the students how to budget and use credit, checking and savings accounts. The club also took a trip to the Museum of Fine Arts and competed in a computerized academic trivia competition. In this new year, the math club isn't slowing down. Now the group is focused on identifying math in everyday life and will be attending two more competitions.
DHS earns 2010 College Readiness
Award from Texas ACT Council

The Texas ACT Council is recognizing Dickinson High School facutly and staff for preparing their students for college. The 2010 College Readiness Award was given to the school for maintaining or increasing the number of students taking the ACT assessment over the past five years. During this time, the composite scores have also been increasing or at least maintained. Less than six percent of schools in the state of Texas were able to reach this level of accomplishment. Good job DHS!
