Education Foundation receives $150,000 scholarship endowment for DHS grads

Casey Groda Scholarship PresentationDickinson High School graduates for years to come will have an opportunity to pursue a college education thanks to a $150,000 endowment fund established by the Casey and Groda families in memory of Molly Casey Groda. The scholarship will be administered by the Dickinson ISD Education Foundation in memory of Molly, a 1968 DHS graduate who was very involved in a wide variety of activities during her four years at DHS.

A reception was held Nov. 30 at the Dickinson Historic Depot to recognize and thank the family for their generous donation to DHS students.

Molly passed away suddenly in 1992 at the young age of 42, but between her years in Dickinson and her unexpected passing, Molly achieved so much. With both bachelor's and master's degrees, Molly worked as a speech therapist for Clear Creek ISD spending her days helping children with their speech problems.

"Her children are her greatest legacy but they live busy lives in Washington State. For the people in Dickinson who loved Molly but can't know Casey and Sean, this scholarship will remind them and inform the recipients of what a really good and special person she was," says her brother Terry. So Molly's siblings, Sheila, Mike, Pat and Terry; her husband Wally and her children Casey and Sean generously created this endowed scholarship that, through the DISD Education Foundation, will provide deserving graduates of DHS with a helping hand next year and for many years in the future.

EARLY is a program that exposes students between the ages of 7-12 to engineering by participating in a robotics competition every fall and spring.

Twenty-eight teams from the Houston area participated in the competition. Congratulations to the GatorBots on their great sportsmanship!

K.E. Little fourth graders
create 3D tribe replicas

K.E. Little Native American tribesTo wrap up a study on Native American tribes found in Texas, the fourth grade classes at K.E. Little Elementary created a 3D representation of the tribe of their choice (Jumano, Karankawa, Comanche, Caddo). If the student had a different Native American tribe in their family heritage, they could also choose that tribe. The creations were on display recently at the school for students to see.
